An iPad 1 with 64gb wifi/3g can be had for around £150 these days would this be worth it for someone who generally just browses the net, reads emails with the occasional netflix thrown in. Alternatively should a bit more be spent on the iPad 2 or 3? :confused:

What is the massive difference?
 
Speed.

iPad 1 works but everything takes about 4 times as long. I've passed mine onto my dad now, it is good because he can't break it.
 
web browsing, youtube, netflix, email and small games such as angry bird is fine. isnt that bad. i recently sold my ipad 1 for £180 then upgraded to ipad 2, only because i find it bit chunky and heavy. £150 is good price for 64gb with 3g.
 
Noticeable relative to the newer iPads, but they don't exactly crawl. The biggest thing for me is they're unsupported now but that might not be a big deal for your use case.
 
I've still got an IP1. Yes it's noticeably quite slow now. The app updates tend to make them all bigger and more complex so things have slowed down since I first got it. Web surfing is ok if you don't mind waiting a little bit. I just did a test on bbc.co.uk and it took 5 seconds to load up on a 7meg wifi signal. Angry Birds just took 17secs before the PLAY button appeared. I don't really find that too bad but I guess it depends what you're used to and how much you want it 'now'.

The bigger issue is that good apps are now only coming out for IP2 and above.
 
Using an iPad 1 now, getting desperate to upgrade to something faster - stuff like Netflix is very slow. Apps also crash quite a lot, think it runs out of ram - multitasking is near impossible. If you switch to the last app you used, chances are its going to relaunch itself.

Basic pages are OK in safari but anything image heavy is slow and crashy. I dont even bother trying to view photo albums on Facebook these days.

I'd spend a bit more on an iPad 2 or mini
 
A refurb iPad 2 won't cost much more. The 2 and 3 both have the same a5 CPU - although it gained more graphics cores when the retina iPad came out. This means, for general non graphical performance a 2 or mini should be much the same as the third gen that's only just been superseded.

To be honest, the iPad 1 went downhill massively with ios 5

Those are the similarities/differences I can see? Am i missing something?
 
Where would one sell their iPad 1?

I've got a 32gb wifi which is in top condition and I have the box and official cover/case. I'd like £130 for it roughly.

Not sure if it would be a big issue but I bought it from the US. (I have a uk plug for it).
 
I'd rather have a bottom of the range iPad 2 than a top of the range iPad 1. Apple didn't put enough RAM in the iPad 1 and that's why it crashes so often. The iPad 2 is much faster as well.

Before Christmas I was using an iPad one and this was my experience.

Some apps require a front facing camera (which it doesn't have), and some require iOS 6 (which it doesn't support), so providing you are willing to sacrifice some compatibility and the speed isn't an issue, it's still capable.

I passed mine on to my wife and I can tell you a basic iPad mini smokes it for roughly the same cost :)

How is the mini lit if it's not LED backlit? It's not an OLED panel so...?:confused:
 
Its strange reading all the negative comments on here about the ipad 1, my girlfriend has one but its still running ios 4.3.3 and it runs really smooth.

She plays quite a lot of games on it, youtube, twitter and general browsing and its not slow at all.

Maybe ios 5 really crippled the ipad 1s performance due to lack of memory.

I have told her never update hers!
