Apple iPhone 3GS - Cracks everywhere...

My 3G has developed a small crack near the vibrate switch, wonder if they will do anything! Think its 18 months old, worth a trip in or will they refuse as it is out of warranty? Never been dropped etc

Have to say I'm pretty impressed with Apple's service. My girlfriends iPhone 3G randomly kept dropping calls and freezing up, it also sometimes sounded like it had a mechanical problem when vibrating (sounded very odd).

First time we went to the Apple store, they just did a restore through iTunes, to no avail. So we went back the following week, she only had 4 days left of her warranty :o.

Anyway, we explained the previous visit and how it didn't solve the problem and then they said ok and just replaced it for brand new 3G on the spot! Was pretty suprised how easily/quick they did it.

There was a lot of iPhone's with problems on the genius bar and they were just replacing them like crazy lol. I guess we do pay a premium and we get a premium customer service, the stores are impressive with soo much staff I don't know how the actual stores can be profitable?

Anyways it's nice to know when you spend this much money on a phone they're not reluctant to help you and would rather just do the most costly thing for them to keep you. And well apple products hold their value when it comes to resale too. I'm turning into a fanboy lol.

exactly we have 5 iphones in our house and have had 2g/3g/3gs and couple a couple of mini macs and 2 imacs and macbooks.. hence they keep you as customer,, allways a great service i find and friendly

Just noticed 2 of the iPhones we have in the family have this issue. Will be taking them back!

Just been in and was told they can't do anything with my iPhone. Got a 1cm long hairline crack near the vibrate button but as it is out of warranty they can only offer sweet FA.

That's not the known 'weak point' where they tend to crack by the dock connector. Bad luck :(

Sucks but the phone is 18months old, just annoyed that it is blatantly a manufacturing fault as I haven't dropped it at all and there are very very few scratches on the back showing I take ridiculously good care of the phone

I've got two, one next to the Silent button and one next to the dock connector. I just thought they were scratches, but after seeing this thread and looking closer, they're cracks (although my iPhone is black so they're not as visible as the OP). Don't think I've had my iPhone that long, bought it in Oct. 2008 iirc. I'll ring up before going in to the store, but do you lot think I'll be able to get a replacement over the counter?

iPhone 3G, in case that makes a difference.

Didn't notice anything on my black 3G when I had it, but have got small ones on the bottom of my white 3GS, said in store they'll replace it if it gets worse (or, when I decide I want a new one which'll be after the world cup when I'm off travelling and no longer need an iPhone!).

Good idea, wish I waited until around May so I could just sell it and wait for the new one to come out and buy it.

Is there a way to avoid getting these hairline cracks? ie. being more careful or less forceful when using the buttons and plugging the iPhone in?

I bought a black 3G on Monday and this issue sounds quite bad. :o

Guy in work has loads on his white iPhone, told him to take it into Apple to see what they say, his is in warranty so I'd expect him to get a new one unless they say the dings on it from him dropping it would have caused the hairline cracks!

Just got my 9 months old 3GS 32GB replaced. No major problem or questions asked. Being restore as I'm typing this.
