Apple Iphone and o2 WTF !

As with all products, the iPhone will eventually become old, loads of people will have one and O2 will start discounting. If you want one of the first then you pay for it. Simple as that!

I don't see there being much room to discount. Just look at how Apple keeps the iPod artificially at RRP no matter who sells it. Even online stores charge virtually RRP for the iPod range.

The $200 drop in price in the US was a shock. I would expect Apple to follow a similar business model to their iPod range in future though. You'll see a fixed price for the lifetime of the product and then it'll be replaced by a new product at a new price tag. No discounts. One price from every shop and for the lifetime of the product.

it really is when you factor in that the price is with a contract on top.

yeah just reread your post, you do realise that the £270 is on top of the £35/month deal as well don't you?

mate....the Phone to BUY ! is cheap......if you buy it its not on contract... !....

BUT

if you buy it on contract the handset is free but you have to pay 35 a month for 18months....

What i said is the contracted version is a totall rip off as you paying 600+ alltogether for a phone thats worth 270...

but the phone on PAY AS YOU GO is cheap...your the one misunderstanding..

270 for a new phone is really cheap...dont think ive seen a ''HIGH EXPECTATION'' phone that cheap before...

The iPhone on PAYG is £729.99 - not £270. Where did you get that figure from? :p

HAAA

you must be joking if you think they will sell iphone for £269 without contract,

It will be more like £600+ on PAYG

The fact is that this phone isn't avaliable on pagy or simfree and you have to take out a 18 month contract to get it.

"In terms of the monthly contract you'll have to pay on top of the two hundred and sixty nine smackeroos for the handset, it stands at £35, £45 or £55 per month over an 18-month contract. That's a whopping £899 to £1,259 in total -- now that's a nerd tax. "

:p

yep heh. if you give one thing to apple you have to say that their marketing team consists of absolute geniuses.

is that the plural?

I can't see o2 not offering a PAYG version of the iPhone contract like AT&T currently do.

Look at this way, you buy an iPhone from an Apple store with no contract setup done in store (all is done at home via iTunes). You unbox your iPhone, connect it up and fail a credit check when trying to take out the contract.

You now have a used phone that Apple may not let you return for a full refund and you cannot even activate it officially to use it as an iPod. You might think this is far fetched but I can't see o2 offering contracts without credit checks and I can see lots of people wasting money on the phone without thinking about this side.

the credit checks will be completed in store. chip and pin verification will be the only type allowed probably. you won't walk out of the door until o2 have decided to give you the contract.

I think you have the wrong end of the stick.

You goto a shop and buy the iPhone for £269. You take it home and plug it into your computer. You then select one of 3 contracts - £35, £45, £55, all 18 months. There is no PAYG option. You won't be able to use any other O2 sim card in the phone without using unlocking tools.

So at the end of the day, you paid an up front £269 in the shop, and then 18 months of at least £35. Total cost of ownership is £899. This makes the iPhone one of the most expensive phones going. The cheapest you can get it overall is £900.

It seems like there's a lot of confusion around the iPhone, but mrochester is right. :)

Apple only ever play by their own rules. This phone won't follow the usual mobile phone market model.

Yeah, people see the price of £269 and think that's all they have to pay. Apple really have some balls to think people are going to spend £900 on their phone when you can get a Nokia N95 for well under half that price. IMO, no phone is worth £900, especially not one as under-featured as the iPhone.
