Apple Map Woes

So the maps app was always Apples own app, just powered by google data. They took out all the google backend stuff and replaced it with their own.

Google haven't released their own maps app yet.

We're talking about POI data and place data though. The actual roads themselves are spot on. The data will get better over time.

I dont have too much of an issue with it, yes apple have a long way to go but it mostly works for me. As long as you double check the route/destination it gives you instead of blindly hitting start, then the routing is actually pretty good. Ill agree the POI data is absolutely rubbish, but I don't really care about that.

The biggest mistake ive seen that actually affects me (slightly) is that Stoke-on-Trent/Hanley seems to have two different satellite sources, and the over lap goes right through the brand new Tesco/new bypass, so we have half a new supermarket and half a wasteland, with the new road only existent in the overlay

I use turn by turn nav via maps occasionally in my car. No problems with the routing whatsoever. The only problems I've had are when street names are not recognised via search.

Next week: Bing maps.

Why don't they just say that most mapping software isn't going to cut it out there. They need to be educating tourists about sourcing better maps and doing your research properly.
