I am currently looking for something similar size/spec to a Macbook. I guess from my previous experience with Macbooks I'd like another, but the price tag is putting me off slightly.

I want something similar spec, size and quality that is cheaper if possible.

My main uses will be browsing/movies... maybe the odd game but nothing too tech. I will be traveling, more so in the one spot in NZ but would like something fairly portable but don't think I want a netbook.

Any ideas welcome :D.
 
Sony CW? 14" screen but looks pretty good. Just bought one for my sister (not me personally!) and it'll be interesting to see what it's like compared to the XPS M1330 I have. How about the original 13" XPS (if they still do it), far nicer looking and smaller than the Studio version, but again a similar price to the macbook (unless you look in the factory outlet.

Having said that similar price but much better internals most of the time. :)

EDIT: Is the Asus UL30Vt not a netbook? (Low power processor)

it's a CULV, yes, but not atom. It's dual core for starters, and has an 'overclock' feature, and dedicated graphics card :) Not sure how that stacks up with other more powerful laptops (and how good it is at heat management when pushed), but it's got good battery life, like the macbooks, and plenty versatile and powerful enough for most things (even gaming). There is also the 14 and 15'' versions, with added dvd drive.
