Apple recruitment seminar

I've been contacted to attend one of these, as a possible 'specialist' role. I'm going.

Anybody been to one?

i think this sums it up:

You will have to jump through hoops typical Apple style. I went to a few of them before I settled in the job I have now, and they weren't that great. You may love it if you are a diehard Apple fan that doesn't mind cute hiring sessions.

It's very impersonal, and a lot of times they will hire the people that know absolutely nothing about Apple computers and software, those that bought their Mac Mini the day before.

Haha. I hate everything they do. The way they limit their products so the newer version will look like saviour and OMG OMG

Essentially you need to be a huge Mac enthusiast to get to the next stage. In the one I had pretty much EVERYONE was like "I love Apple loads and loads because...." apart from me. Which is probably why I didn't get a second interview...

I worked with a guy in 3rd line support, and he left to do his "dream job" in an apple store..... (selling and fixing apple crap). Way to go!

I've tried everything to get employed by Apple.

The jobs come up on the website, just keep applying. A lot of people apply multiple times before they get an interview, just because of volume of applicants.

It astounds me how they manage to keep hiring complete ****s who are next to useless at my old store (girlfriend still works there) despite having so many applicants. It's like they go out of their way to find the worst staff these days.

They used to be called Mac Specialists but now they sell so much other stuff they thought it wasn't appropriate anymore.

So now they're Specialists in.. er... everything. I'm not sure how they worked that one out!

I haven't bothered recently, kinda bummed out by it now. I even did a 10.5 ACP exam and passed 100% still didn't make a difference...probably why I haven't pushed myself to go further and go for the 10.6 Essentials & Server Essentials.

Probably don't pay a whole lot for store jobs.

If you're aiming for Apple Retail, they're not mega fussed about certs. They take most of the Genius team from the sales floor or elsewhere in the business anyway, over half I'd say. Same with the Creative team. More managers come from outside, but still a fair amount are hired internally.

Have you tried applying as a specialist? If you know your stuff moving up from the sales floor isn't difficult

Wear rimless glasses, a polo-neck and chinos and bring a triple mochachocalatte to the seminar and you should be just fine.

Oh and bring a really expensive pen. One that writes just the same as a 10p Biro but changes everything through its slimline design and feel. It'll show you truly appreciate the Apple Way.
