Apple announced the release of Safari 3.1 today. The newest version of Safari incorporates the latest changes from Webkit to provide "the world's fastest web browser for Mac and Windows PCs".

According to Apple Safari loads web pages 1.9 times faster than IE 7 and 1.7 times faster than Firefox 2. Meanwhile, Safari's Javascript is "up to six times faster than other browsers."
"Safari 3.1 for Mac and Windows is blazingly fast, easy to use and features an elegant user interface," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "And best of all, Safari supports the latest audio, video and animation standards for an industry-leading Web 2.0 experience."

Safari 3.1 is available for download at http://www.apple.com/safari/ or via your Software Update.

Double clicking in the blank space for tabs creates a new tab now (ala Firefox). I know it did not do that before as it is one of my bugbears, being a new Mac user. If only they could add a "new tab" button, to avoid having to press Command+T

Quotes are here to stay then eh? :p lol

Back on topic:
I didn't know about this, not even in Firefox... Good to know though :)

Hopefully. To be honest, I thought the older version was slightly sluggish whilst opening web pages. Especially the default Apple web page. Let's hope this is quicker!

To be fair the Apple site loads like butter anyway, regardless of browser.

I can confirm it is much fater now.
About the same speed as IE.

The font looks rubbish though!
What font do you guys use?

Only thing stopping me from changing from firefox to safari, on mac, is bookmarks.

FF I have the bookmarks sidebar open all the time but in Safari if you want bookmarks open it makes its own tab :(

Have they changed the font then?

(Still in work so I'm stuck with FF for now!)

I have the same issue with bookmarks though, Foxmarks is an amazing plugin for FF!
