I think the ATV is only worthwhile as an XBMC platform.

Well I ended up biting the bullet and getting an ATV2 to run XBMC on and I've got to say say I'm not that impressed. I've been getting stuttering with films even at 720p sometimes, mostly with panning shots. I even purchased ATVFlash (black) as I had heard that was a little better with playback and it's nearly exactly the same

I'll be chucking it up on the MM and getting something different (maybe a WDTV Live if it ticks all the boxes)

Sorry to hear you don't like it, out of interest how have you got it connected to your network, wired or wireless?

It's all wired via cat5e, the exact route is:

ATV2 -> D-Link DGS-1005D -> Synology DS211j

I know I had a few stuttering issues when I tried it wirelessly but it was fine when I wired it up to my network, obviously you shouldn't have any issues network wise with you being all ready wired

I didn't mean at this moment, but via future updates. It's disappointing how much further 'ahead' the JB'ed version is compared to stock though. Perhaps when iOS 5 comes out they'll flesh the ATV2 out a bit.

In what way? It's tightly integrated into the stock UI and the add-on manager is fantastic. Fair enough it has the same features as XBMC and that is free but for £12 it's hardly expensive!

You tried running a Nightly build?

Mine is running great. Latest iOS and official XBMC build. The only problem ive got at the mo is updating my library-anyone have this issue?
