Apple TV 4

For a laugh I decided to tweet STV, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and UKTV to ask them if they plan to add support for their existing catchup TV apps or develop a new app for tvOS.

Only had a reply from Channel 4 so far who have said:

No plan atm however the #All4 app is available on Apple devices which are compatable with your TV.

All I can say is for me a FireTV makes a lot more sense. It's back down to £65 with potentially another £10 off a £50 spend and cash back from a well known department store who give 2 years warranty. It runs Kodi amazingly well, has various catch up services and has Plex etc.

Went with Fire TV 4K in the end, does everything I want, Kodi is a bonus!

Ah that's poorly wordeD then. It can still be airplayed.

I've just bought the ATV4 from Currys who had it with a £10 discount at £119.99. I've been holding out but since my PS3 died I've not had a way to stream Netflix to my TV. I know the ATV4 in it's current state isn't the ultimate streaming device but it has so much potential, especially since I'm already heavily invested into the ecosystem.

One thing I'm curious to see how it works is I have a different iCloud account to my wife. So if we want to access our own Apple Music and iCloud Photos I'm not sure how this is handled. I know you can add multiple accounts in the settings and switch between but what's not clear is how this refreshes the content in those apps.

Love the potential of the system. Bought one for my parents for Christmas and it really is leaps ahead of the 3rd Gen in usability. Will take the plunge when there is more apps available.

What i would love is having a HDMI in on the device so i can plug a HD tuner into it. Would never have to use the TV's built in sluggish UI...

I think family sharing could cover this? Not sure about the icloud pic's though.

It was inevitable really. Samsung's new TV UI:

It's only half height so definitely doesn't count as copying. :D

So I have it now and you can switch between family accounts / additional iTunes accounts. Problem is, each time you switch you and go into music you have to re-enable iCloud Music Library, which takes 30 seconds to sync up. Kinda annoying.

You can't switch between multiple iCloud accounts which are using for the photos unfortunately.

I was really tempted to replace my ATV 2 and 3 with a 4 but went with a Fire TV 4K instead.

Mainly because I'm cancelling Netflix and already pay for Prime so it was an easy way of getting Prime Video content.

We just got a few at work and I was trying it out, if you screen share often it seems worth it, or you have a lot of Apple services its amazing. I think for my usage the Fire TV is better, I just use it for streaming media.

That's the thing, I'm usually a card-carrying Apple fanboi but I've ditched Apple Music along with Netflix.

So other than photos (which I could link to Prime) there's not a whole lot the Fire TV can't do, and a lot more that it can do (Prime Video and Music)…

For the cost of Prime and the cost of the Fire TV it just makes the most sense at the moment.

Does anyone know if Now TV (from Sky) is available on the new Apple TV? If so, is it functionally any better than on the previous Apple TV? Also, is Eurosport Player available yet?
