Ok I was thinking of getting Apple TV. The reasoning behind this is,I buy Blu-rays at the moment and only ever watch them once, so really rental would be the best option for me.

I have a samsung smart Tv and don't want to use Netflix and have a monthly charge regardless if I watch anything or not. So iTunes would be my best option I think ?

So is Apple TV worth getting is the quality of the HD films nearly as good as blu-ray and is there anything I should know before going down this route?

Many thanks ;)

iTunes rentals are fairly expensive so you would only need to watch a couple of films and you would already have paid more than the £4.99 Netflix sub. Just depends how much you would use it I guess. iTunes films would probably be better quality too.

...the £4.99 Netflix sub.
£5.99 :p And £20 cashback from Quidco ;)

I've not used iTunes films through AppleTV (fancy getting one but haven't gotten around to it), but The Digital Copy that came with the Prometheus Blu-Ray was HD (all my others have been SD) which means 1080p @ ~5Mbps. It's good enough that I haven't bothered watching the Blu-Ray yet :)

The quality is great but I have found it a bit hit and miss on the rentals.

Its great for trailers though and streaming from your computer.

I use it for Airplay... Love it for my NFL Gamepass.... I wouldnt do with out it =)

Also even better if you can lay your hands on a ATV2, so you can use XBMC....

I purchase TV shows via iTunes and watch via the ATV as well as using it for Airplay. I highly recommend it and if you keep an eye out and buy cheap iTunes vouchers you can offset the high cost of purchasing/renting from iTunes.

I have both the Gen 1 and the latest apple tv version. I think they are great. It's easy to set up a US itunes account and gain access to wider selection of movies and tv shows. Even without this, it's still pretty good in the UK. It's true that netflix works out cheaper on the rental side, but in my opinion netflix is a complete bag of pish. I took up the option of a months free trial and within 1 weekI was stuggling to find things to watch. At least with itunes rentals there is some fairly new stuff available. It's only £99, give it a shot, it you don't get on with it you should be able to sell it £60 - 70. Even better, try a borrow someones.

Thanks for the input much appreciated. Well you have all convinced me going to order one now :)
Regarding the apple full HDTV that is going to a bit pricey I would imagine?? £89.00 for ATV seems better for my bank account.
Thanks again :)

Had my Apple TV2 for ages now. Great little thing. Broke the remote and used my iphone to remote it. Although brother changed IP and now my iPhone wont connect lol.

Other than that, its great :)

Sorry to resurrect an old thread (hope its allowed) but to save writing a new one... ITs been mentioned about NFL Gamepass on here.

what are the requirements to use NFL Gamepass with Apple TV? and how is the quality?
