I am renovating a flat for my father and we need all new appliances as follows:

Integrated full height fridge freezer
Integrated 600 dishwasher
freestanding washing machine.

I have found all hotpoint products with 3 yr warranty on fridge and dishwasher (additional cost) and 2 yr on the washing machine which has a free 5 yr part warranty too...

So are hotpoint a good brand and would you get anything different - i'd like all of the same brand really. Budget is £1200 max which is what howdens basically wanted for the above in their lamona range that is backed by a 2 year warranty however I think these products are made by beko or similar...

TIA

James

Hotpoint are ok.

For me it goes:

Miele
Bosch / Neff
Hotpoint / Zanussi / LG all much of a muchness
Beko / Indesit

...in order of descending quality and reliability. Which is basically just a price descending list also..

Must ................ not .................... post .................... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH !!

Hotpoint are rubbish, used to be ok but were bought by Indesit and became cheapo italian.
Best low price brand is Whirlpool, otherwise its all crap except for Bosch and Miele.
As I repair these appliances I know but no doubt you will believe what you want to.

I've got a Zanussi fridge / freezer & dishwasher, fridge / freezer is fine, not a huge fan of the dishwasher, my parents Bosch is miles better.

We got a new kitchen back in February with all Bosch appliances (Oven, microwave, dishwasher, hob) so far no problems and it certainly all feels very good quality

cheers for the replies. I know the top end of the market well but as this is a rental flat in clapton, east london and I don't really want to be giving tenants miele products. The last lot (gypsies from all accounts on benefits) have wrecked the place to the tune of a £15k refurb. They'd have probably nicked the appliances to sell and do without...

Don't ask - was an extremely bad managing agent (who unfortunately is not a member of any professional body).

Eddie - i know what you mean but it'd be in the region of double the budget to put them in...

I had an indesit washer/dryer combo that was 6 years old when I moved out of my flat and still going strong. Currently have a beko fridge-freezer in and hotpoint washing machine in the new flat. Fridge makes a few strange noises but both perform well.

If I was buying my own however, I'd probably try to stretch to bosch, If they're to expensive, just go with longest warranty maybe?

Whoa there Jane, no need to get defensive :p. I'm sure people will be happy to listen to someone that repairs them professionally, since you're likely to have a far better idea than someone who's had personal experience of only one or two appliances.

Currently got an 11 year old Bosch washing machine, and am looking to buy a new one, talking to the guys in John Lewis the other day they tell me that Bosch aren't what they used to be, and some of the machines are now made in Eastern Europe

A tip he told me was to look at the side of the machine on the panel, the indentations or patterns there give the game away as to where it's made - Eastern Europe or Germany. Sorry I can't remember exactly what he said re the patterns, but I'm sure they'll help you. Plus you get a better warranty when you buy from them.

Right i can get bosch all 3 for under £1200 (just) and all with a 2 year warranty.

The fridge is over £500 but the other two are about £340 a piece which is good I think.

I suppose it doesn't have to be a bosch fridge?

In my years as a landlord I buy the cheapest washing machine (£170ish) as tenants wreck them yearly then at least you have a years call out warranty, I have built it into my budget, one lasted 7 years another 14 months and broke down twice in that period, you could by the cheapest John Lewis one witha five year guarantee.

The fridge buy the cheapest that fits, they are pretty reliable.

The cooker spend a bit more

My biggest concern is the minimal hassle to myself, so if anything breaks down the tenant can organise themselves a repair rather than me sourcing a repair.

Miele, AEG, Neff or Baumatic would be my suggestions. For the love of God stay away from CDA, they make ovens out of snakeskin for goodness sake.

Well no, that's your job.

Probably is but it's worked so far.

Tenant gets an instant response from the warranty / repair company and times and days the repair will take place, if it's out of warranty I buy a new one straight away with a installation and take away service.

Job done no hassle

How about somebody who was Hotpoint's Quality Audit Technician for 27 years?
Yes that was me.
All Hotpoint stuff is now built in Poland and is garbage, it was also garbage from around 2005 onwards when built at the Stoke & Welsh sites.
The exact same make are Creda, Indesit and Ariston so stay away from those also.
If you can't afford Miele go with Bosch because I attended 1000s of quality meeting where the Italian owners Merloni wanted to be like Bosch but had no chance.

Me and Eddie have said our peace.

Perhaps Eddie can fill you in better on that one but at one time virtually all the parts were made for all makes by one firm so the only difference was the box they were put in.

What is this some kind of 'I've fixed more machines than you' competition? Read my reply again, I was conceding that he had far more knowledge than I. This place is hilarious; even when you reply in a humble fashion acknowledging your own shortcomings, you get someone wading in replying to something you haven't even said, bragging about how they've wasted years of their life checking that washing machines are working properly.
