Hi,
Thinking about applying for a shotgun licence. The problems is I got a diversion in 95.

When the police do a criminal record checks on me, will the diversion show up on their records?

I was told that after the diversion was finished, I would not have a criminal record. I'm worried its going to bite in the ass now.

As above. pigeonwatch forum will have plenty of up to date info from people, as the law might have changed slightly.

I have had 2 x stints of 5 year shotgun certificates in my time, and I did have a caution from my stupid early just finished school teen days, and it was ok, but the law might have changed, I know they have changed a few things recently, IE not just checking the security in around your house, and your gun cabinet at the application, but now they do random un-announced visits, they never used to do that with SGC. Only sometimes with firearm licence.

I sold my shotgun and firearm a few years ago when work got more taxing, I had less time to go out with them.

Although best get word from people in the know as above from their forums.

quite simply declare everything on your application and during your feo interview. if it later doesn't appear on your CRB then it just shows you've been honest which is only a good thing.
if however it does show up and you haven't declared it then it looks like you're being dishonest and looks bad.

With a shotgun they have to find a reason not to give you it... With a firearms you need a reason to have it .

I had a little history and had no problem getting my ticket for both . Does depend on yer force though .. Some are better than others

Just apply and make sure you put on it on the application. the police will know everything and it wont look good if you don't tell them.

when i applied for mine i put down all my speeding offences but forgot to mention the time 10 years ago i got stopped for not having tax. he reminded me of it but did say not to worry about it.

Just found out that a
"A diversion from prosecution is not a conviction. That's the whole point - you are diverted from having to go to court.

Looks like my ass has been saved!!!!!!

just need to save up now

It'll still probably be on record, just like a caution isn't "going to court", but will still be on record.

Just declare it.

Makes me want to re-apply, however think I would struggle getting the OK to keep a cabinet in a "Shared house", by the non-live in landlady, and by the firearms officer (possibly) I dont know.

You don't need a cabinet for a licence, you don't need or have to have a shotgun for a licence, you can apply for one if say you wanted to buy ammunition for which you do not need to have a cabinet and use someone else's shotgun, you can lend a shotgun to someone with the correct licence for up to 48hrs iirc without having to inform anyone.

Yeah I know, but I would want one

My first 5 year stint with a licence when I was 18 I had an old spanish side by side my dad gave me on my own cert, I didnt have a proper cabinet, I had it in a cupboard and one of those wallmounted lockable clamps bolted to a concrete wall.

2nd stint when I was 23 or so I had a Lanber O/U 12 bore but had a cabinet in my bedroom bolted to the wall, as I also had a firearms cert and a CZ American .17HMR on a firearms licence so had to have the cab.

If I was going to apply for a cert, I would want my own gun. Dont know anyone else round here that shoots with a cab that I know of (anymore that is).
