i didnt carry on with the painting and decorating as i didnt really enjoy it tbh and im not to sure on what i want to do atm im just seeing whats out there but i know i want a change of work and get out of doing warehouse work but like momentimori said its going to be hard the way the job market is :/
I think that's what you need to resolve first - what areas interest you etc... in terms of getting a job without any experience in an area then the next best thing is probably demonstrating some knowledge about an area, some passion for it etc... I'm sure a PC enthusiast who knows a bit about hardware, windows, linux, perhaps has some networking gear at home etc.. could land a support job. Likewise someone who's contributed to open source projects in their own time or has developed/published their own apps etc... could land a dev role.
I'd say find an area you like and if its not feasible for you to get a job right away in that area then get yourself a random joe job whether that be stacking shelves or flipping burgers and then use your spare time to work towards the area you're really into whether that involves taking on evening courses, distance learning, professional qualifications (accountancy etc..) or simply getting more into a hobby - photography, coding etc...
