Just a quick question. I've got a bottle of Rain X Weatherbeater 2-in-1 glass cleaner + rain repellent which I use to protect my shower screen. It says spray directly onto glass then wipe with a cloth. Nothing about waiting for it to form a haze before buffing off. So, should I wipe on and off?

Cheers Raymond. Done that now. It didn't seem to be forming a haze anyway. I know that there are some
Rain X products where it says wipe after it's gone hazy.

Use Gtechniq G1 Smartglass....a little more labour intensive putting it on, but once it is on it is incredible and lasts for years!

I have used the Gtech G1 and the Gyeon rain repal stuff, and are both really good. As you are not spraying onto a car, not sure Motors section was best place for post, or why you would spray it onto your shower screen :P it will still need cleaning as much :P

The Rain X glass cleaner doesn't haze, you just use it like a regular glass cleaner. If you buy the "proper" Rain X repellant (in the small bottle), that you apply, wait for it to dry to a haze, then buff off.

As for G1, I'm not really sold on it. It's no more effective than Rain X, from what I can tell. It might last longer, but given than its incredibly more expensive, and it's more of a faff to apply, I think I'd be inclined to carry on using Rain X.

These rain repellents such as RainX are amazing on perfecr glass with no surface scratches or pitting due to dust and grit from the road. For 95% of windscreens it is terrible as the droplets cling to the microchips and scratches and bead tightly.

Beading is a sign that the repellent is working, surely? If it didn't bead up, then it would cling to chips and scratches even more.

I've used it on all my cars, all of them had far from perfect glass, and it's always been a noticeable improvement.

Someone I know puts a small amount of rinse aid his washer, apparently that works really well but I've never actually seen it in action
