Yet my cousin loves it. Was never bright at school, started an app with honda as a mechanic. Now is on 16k with audi and takes home FREE alloy wheels monthly to put on ebay. (we re talking 18 inch audi wheels) He makes enough and loves his job :)

Why does he take away alloy wheels? Surely Audi will notice that he already has them?

My mate works for Audi, he also gets free stuff every so often, usually when parts have been changed.
Ive got half a VW 1.8T engine in my shed from my mate who worked at VW due to the bottom end going, they just replaced the engine.

Yeah, just my mate has got sick of it. He makes around 16k now after just coming out of his time, but theres generally problems with communication between different levels, so the mechanics usually get the blame.

thats what I hear off my friends in the trade as well.

They seem to enjoy the work though, it annoys me a bit that the peope who left school at 16 to do this actually earn more than I do after college/uni but they have taken on so many different skills!!

Tell me about it :/

Moss, you dont happen to want to sell that engine do you? Coincidentally my cousin has just bought a 51 reg A6 1.8t with head failure for £500 :)

I'm just looking into this now, as an alternative to Uni, mainly because i'm dog sick of computers now!!

Great site i stumbled across (my college was of NO use AT ALL  )

www.remit.co.uk

Check it out, its kinda like UCAS but for moto apprenticeships!! Also, just go round all the car dealers in your area, they're generally very helpful and usually have leaflets and what not!

Just make sure you go on a weekday, as generally head technicians who are most likely to know about the apparenticehips are off work!!

I'd really like to go into auto electronics, computers and cars w00t!!! I hopoe something comes of this, as i'm sick and tired of computing after 2 years of software development. WHY OH WHY don't they do an overclocking JOB!! that *** pwn!!!

Go to your local garages, even the bigger ones (VW, FORD, AUDI etc) and ask anyone inside about an apprenticeship as a mechanic. They take them on all the time and train you well.
