I've recently rooted my Desire Z and I'm spending some time installing and trying out apps that need a rooted phone to work. I've started this thread for root users to list the useful apps they have installed and for users of non-rooted phones to see if anything may persuade them to take the plunge.

So far I've installed and kept the following on my phone since roooting:

1) Rom Manager - A must have tool. Allows you to download and change roms as well as backup your current rom.

2) Superuser - Allows the apps requiring root to access the phone (or something along those lines!!)

3) Titanium Backup PRO (great backup tool)

4) ClockSync - Syncs clock time with time servers (my phone is normally out by a few seconds every day until the scheduled sync)

5) SetCPU - Overclocks the phone (mine is currently running at 1344MHz on demand)

6) Multi Mount SD-Card - Allows you to access the SD card from the phone and the pc at the same time when connected via USB

7) Picme - Can take screenshots of the phone and you can view and control the phone via your pc web browser.

8) ShootMe - Another screengrabber. Shake the phone and it captures the screen. (Has been used successfully on an unrooted SGS. Not sure if it will work on all unrooted phones though as the descriptions on and android market and appbrain still state that it needs root.)

9) Root Explorer - Allows you to access and modify your phone's system folders. This was very useful for me as my notification and ringtone sounds were on my sd card and when the phone was not rooted and was connected to the pc via usb, my ringtones would change.

10) CacheMate - Clears cache of all apps at the press of a button.

11) AdFree android - Removes ads from apps!!! (thanks Aod!)

12) Android Terminal Emulator - Terminal Application (can also be used on unrooted phones).

Feel free to share your favourite apps for root!!

13) MyBackupPro backs up call logs/SMS/bookmarks/alarms/dictionary. Use in conjunction with Titanium to restore everything on a new ROM. (reefoid, post#4) (can also be used on unrooted phones).

Must have missed that one. Also have it installed. I'll add it to the above list.

Hamster, you think you could change the links to market.android.com ones instead of appbrain?

Changed :) I have saved and can tag on the appbrain links if anyone prefers them.

-edit- So that all suggested apps are easily available in one post rather than further in the thread I shall add them to my first post.

Yup, had it on my sgs for a week now and only got round to rooting yetserday, I used it to grab my screenies for the desktop thread about 3/4 days ago, I'm running version 0.8.0 which I got off the market

OK thanks for that :) I will add that to the first post.

Does anyone have any suggestions of a terminal app that will allow me to make a batch file of a couple of commands then have a quick way of applying the batch? The reason I ask is that whenever I take the battery out of my phone, I need to enter a couple of lines into terminal emulator to allow SetCPU to overclock again.

Screenshot taking is built into the stock SGS rom for what it's worth. Hold back, press home, listen for the camera shutter sound. Will be in a folder called screenshots.
