If i had windows installed on c:, but then install apps onto d:.

If i then format or upgrade c: is there anyway to reimport the already installed files?

I assume the problem is just a series of registry tweaks to let windows know the location and the fact that its installed?

If you're just upgrading take an image of the C: using Ghost or Acronis and restore it onto the new drive. Doesn't matter if the new drive is bigger as the size of the partition can be adjusted to fill the space, if it's smaller it's a bit more tricky but will work provided the actual data will fit the new drive (i.e., going from a 160GB to 120GB is ok if there's less than 120GB used space).

Ye as above you'll need to resinstall. you might find some apps/games will still work but the vast majority wont. Oblivion and the tomb raider games are a couple that have always worked for me after a reinstall.
