Aprilia RSV-R to...Sports tourer? O_o

SV1000 is an underrated bike, gives you the best of nearly everything with a more comfortable riding position, excellent pillion accommodation(never had any complaints even on long rides) and it's great fun at the weekend :).

The riding position on the 1000 is no different to the 650, and I found my 650 very uncomfortable for any significant distance. Even with a Suzuki gel seat my arse was in agony after about 70 miles. By comparison, my RSV is like a comfy old armchair that I can ride all day.

Been toying with the same idea lately. Years ago I could ride my RSV for hundreds of miles in a day with no complaints. The Gen 1 Mille's were always physically big bikes and comfy to boot. The Gen 2's went a different design route and lost those qualities to a degree, such is technological progress. I toured Scotland 2 up withe the wife on the back and jam packed throw over panniers and comfort was fine.

But fast forward to the present day - I'm older, have recurring knee and back problems from old bike smash injuries and I'm not as supple as I used to be. The Mille also kills my wrists around town, the heavy clutch doesn't help. It still makes me grin like a complete idiot every time I ride it though. That said, I'm tempted by a used K1200RS, I would probably use it more often than the Mille and having ridden a friends one a while back I found it like a comfy sofa compared to the Mille although it felt down on grunt compared to my RSV and a little buzzy.

KTM Rc8, comfiest sports bike i have ever owned. Helps that its designed by 6ft Austrians and not 5ft Japanese. 2up comfort is not bad either so im told. Wouldnt catch me up there though.

Goes like the stink as well.

It wasn't that big a jump - think it was 100bhp to 110, however it is the twin cam engine which is generally more responsive

Yes you're right, my bad:

At its launch in 2004, the R1200GS was 30 kg (66 lb) lighter than the R1150GS it replaced,[4] and produced 100 bhp (75 kW), an increase of 19%. BMW continued to produce the R1150GS Adventure, releasing a final run-out special edition model,[5] before launching the R1200GS Adventure at the end of 2005, for the 2006 model year.[6]

Upgrades for model year 2008 included increased power to 105 bhp (78 kW), a new Integral ABS II anti-lock braking system was released without servo assistance and new options were added including electronic suspension adjustment (ESA) and the Automatic Stability Control (ASC) traction control system.[7][8]

In 2010 model year, both models featured a revised cylinder head with double overhead camshaft, increased redline limit to 8,500 rpm, and an exhaust flap to give the exhaust a different tone. Power is increased to 110 hp (82 kW) @ 7,750 rpm.[9]

At the 2012 Intermot, BMW announced that the 2013 model would feature water cooling, deliver an additional 15 horsepower (11 kW), and weigh approximately 20 pounds (9.1 kg) more than the outgoing model.

Safety issues

The R1200GS has been affected by a number of safety issues since launch. The United Kingdom Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has issued nine separate vehicle recalls covering the front brakes,[19] anti-lock braking system,[20][21] throttle cable,[22] fuel pump,[23] clutch,[24] final drive assembly,[25] brake pipes,[26] and gearbox.[27] Similar recalls have been issued in other countries.

Early reports described the bike as having a front end "head shake",[18][28] and deliveries of the motorcycle were delayed while BMW revised the front end design

:p

Took my eldest son on his first ride yesterday, just to the chippy and back. He really enjoyed it which surprised me a little as he's never rally shown an interest in bikes. Oh and he did wear a jacket, he's just posing in the pic. :p

She'd never been on the bike for more than an hour, so I thought a Euro trip with 300 miles a day for several days might be tough so I bought an air hawk seat for her. She was fine...no idea if the seat made any difference - my son has never bothered.

5th gen vfr 800 :D

unless you're willing to dump 10k on a brand new 2014 one :p

awesome bike will have money left over to buy full luggage if you dont get any with it too from your old bike.

I've always wanted a GS, it would be wasted on what I do with a bike these days though.

They really are for using and not just taking out when it's sunny.

Yeah, mine is a workhorse - use it for commuting, touring, even shopping, but its still a bloody good bike for a blast around the country roads. In fact its perfect for B roads, which make up a lot of the roads around here

I actually had a think about things again after posting in this thread.

I had an MT-09 on order from the local dealer for delivery in August, went back this weekend and had a couple of test rides and changed my order to a Triumph Tiger 800 XC.

Brilliant as the MT-09 is, I think I will probably use the Tiger more, as it's more practical round here.
