Can anyone tell me if I was to migrate from Zen to Aquiss, how does it work with regards to getting my MAC, and final payments?

Also, any opinions on Aquiss?

Many thanks

Get MAC from Zen, give MAC to new ISP, ADSL stops working. Change login, new ISP starts working.
Zen should refund for any time you've paid for after you've migrated (that made more sense in my head :p).

Never even heard of Aquiss, but searching around, their prices and limits seem very familiar to Enta's...

cool, if I paid Zen for my rental on 7 August, do you know if I will have to pay any extra to them when I ask for my MAC?

Sorry to ask, I know it would be best to speak to them but they're closed atm :)

Any opinion on Enta? Aquiss are very new, but from speaking to their technical support today do seem very good. You are aware of my recent posts about my line stats and here's one of their replies to me after giving them my phone number and post code:

I have now got a better picture of your line. Using your line details I have made use of the tools BT make available to us and I have also called BT on your behalf to ask what others in your area/street are getting to help with the rough information.

Between the lot I am going to give you a "Worst case figure" and say around 4.5Mbps -> 5Mbps would be the average figure. This is slighty lower than I mentioned earlier, but I rather side with caution at this stage (read on).

The chap from BT Technical team advised that people around you are getting anywhere between 3Mbps and 7Mbps which indicates people with a mix of quality of lines. He could see that PSTN related work on your line had taken place and still waiting for final "close down", which is the engineer signing off work he has done over a couple of days.

I know from personal experience that BT claim my line will only get 5.5Mbps, but I have been syncing at just below 7Mbps for ages now.

Cheers Tolien, your always a very helpful person on these forums!

Zen will not charge for providing you your MAC code.

The speed sounds about right. Only the luck ones get the speed the router syncs at. When I was with Zen I would sync at the full 8mb but got no more then 6 mb which is what I was told I would get.

You shouldn't.

It depends on Aquiss' relationship to Enta. Enta themselves are mostly decent (but have their flaws, that I've already dribbled on about elsewhere), but that's not necessarily meaningful.
I wouldn't guarantee they're an Enta reseller either.

I'd be wary of swallowing that line they've fed you, because it's extremely unlikely they can see anything more than the BT checker shows you - because you aren't their customer.
I wouldn't expect them to have any direct contact with BTw if they're an Enta reseller either.

:( well the checker is still showing

Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 1Mbps or greater.

Should be updated by Thursday I believe (3 days to update?)

I wouldn't worry too much about what the BT checker reports. At my parents' house it says the same thing but it syncs at 3000 ish so is sitting on the 2.5mbit profile. Also, here at my place the checker says 3mbit but I actually have 4.5mbit (as well as cable cos I'm greedy).

I'm not too sure how often BT update their availability checker figures. It still says 1mbit for my parents' place despite having been on 2.5mbit for months now.

Well due to go over to Aquiss on the 1st. Specified that date for billing reasons. Looks like I'm the first Aquiss user here, so will report back. So far their support seems good but they havent had my money yet lol. 1 month contract if it all goes wrong so not too bad.

how are you finding aquiss?

Yeah id like to know this to, ive heard some good things about these, packages seem very good, decent limits etc..., my mate told me about these as he's going to em from Eclipse, and they are an Enta reseller. :)

The best support you will ever receive. I have been talking to them today in fact about domains. :D Same great speed that you get with all of Enta's resellers.

Used them for about 3 months now, found them to be excellent.
Usually respond to e-mails very promptly, only bad thing is they work office hours, no 24/7 support.
They are reselling enta, they're also completely unthrottled with respect to traffic shaping. My P2P speeds have been through the roof since joining. :D

Well you say they only work office hours, i havent signed up yet but in my experience on their forums. They had staff online between 6.00PM-3.00AM. So obviously they were at home but still willing to help. That is very good.

If i migrate from SkyBB (Easynet) do i need their MAC code if i change to aquiss as they are LLU and not on the standard BT stream network?

As i'm not actually connected to Sky BB i dont know whether to ask for a new MAC code from them or use my old AOL MAC code from about 4 months ago as that was from ADSL MAX.

The MAC code is only valid for 1 month, so you can't use it even if what your saying did work. :p

If you are on a LLU than it is a cease provide and a new activation. If you get a MAC code from SkyBB than this should happen on the same day. You will need to pay a £55 activation fee too. :)

So the Aquiss Activation fee is because i'm migrating from a LLU provider and not from an ISP on the BT IPsteam network?

Yes. Though if you haven't been connected yet, it's debatable how that applies...
