Arc Raiders

In the same round that I got done over by Reuben I looked at the extract at the Testing Annex as I’d heard shots and thought about extracting, but I noticed someone slyly hiding in the rocks near to the little hut that everyone hides in. I said I’d seen him on proximity chat but he never replied so I bugged out as I suspect he was the cause of the shots being fired/camping the extract.

The game has now become a part of my weekly / wind down routine and as sad as this may sound I can't imagine not playing it now. I had fallen out with gaming a bit in recent years but this and BF6 (more this) has brought the magic back.

I'd have paid 3 times what they were charging for this game.

Stella Montis is a maze and an absolute death trap. I'm sure it will get easier when I'm used to the map, but so far i've spent most of my time lost and fleeing arc or raiders.

Its completely different to all the other maps since it's mostly indoors/underground.
Yeah I'm not a fan coz I spend the whole time going around in circles. And some of the quests are annoying due to difficult/impossible to find without a guide. ******* lemons. :)

I've killed 1-2 so far (one actual gun fight, another avenging someones death while he was looting), even when I knew someone was waiting/camping I still got killed lol, but that death was avenged which was nice.

I found my weapon of choice: recorder :) no one kills me now, they just get down to the groove ;) That and take the high ground standing over the whole map with a sniper rifle, people think wow that guy mean business, until they hear the recorder :)

I helped kill a Rocketeer then fell off the roof playing recorder, somehow still alive, guy said 'meet up' so we did, we went around the map unlocking all the secure lockers, gave me a ton of nice stuff! I also shot a rocketeer from waaay the other side of the map and got a steam achievement.

edit: 3rd kill! killed my first leaper, there was someone helping toward the end, but he didn't come out from his shelter to say hi so I did not trust him, and I was right, he nearly got me while looting, next time I'll take a smoke grenade for those encounters. I soothed his passing by playing the recorder.

I was in a group with a couple of randoms that knew their way around Stella Montis last night.

I took decent weapons before we were grouped (gambling on the outcome) and we stayed together after our first successful run for a few more. We took down the bastion a few times as well which was easy with the deadline (no recorded needed :D) and one of us acting as bait to turn it. (Perhaps the bait could have used it?)

And we killed so many other groups.
So, so, many.
All those solo runs where I got turned to pink paste were a distant memory by the time I logged off.

It didn't have the fear factor that solo has, but it was still fun. Very different vibe to solo in general once I was in a group that meshed.

They weren't my only group, there were plenty that didn't work before that, and some that did but we didn't stay together.
I wasn't going to group at all, but somehow I toggled fill on, so I just went with it.

My first night non solo since I bought the game.

I like the game but all the stash management stuff is annoying and makes me not want to play. I have so much stuff which I dont know what to do with.

It gets easier, I have sold/recycled many things I've later needed, like all my fruit & pillows etc once I got scrappy to level 3 I thought that was the max. Just reminded me I still need to go back and get the apricots at some point for lvl 4 :D

I did solo free loadouts trying to get mushrooms yesterday and kept getting shot in the back, so I decided to then take nothing but a raider hatch key in my safe pocket. Got killed a couple of times but took great pleasure in telling the person that killed me to enjoy absolutely nothing

The NA servers look much more friendly playing solo on videos. Seen one yesterday of a guy busking at one of the train stations (singing about scrappy), and even raiders were dropping items as they left.

Little tip for mushtooms and apricots. On spaceport at the north of the map is a trench with trees in it. At the far eastern end is one tree with a guaranteed 4 mushrooms on it. There is an extract very close by which has a metal trailer thing nearby, that has 3 apricot trees next to it which you can usually find 1 or 2 on the floor and kick a couple of the trees too for extra.

Yeah that's exactly where I got the mushrooms from, kept spawning miles away though and getting shot on route haha

After three dire rounds I finally managed to extract, despite someone trying to ambush me yet again. New tactic have heavy fuse grenades at the ready, all I could hear was the yells while the ramps went up!

well I picked it up and just did the tutorial. so far I am hopeful but also a little concerned.

it looks great, the over all premise seems just my bag
it seems a little clunky on the controls but that may be because I am using KB/M for the 1dt time in years (I far prefer pad and may even go back to it, but the accuracy you get on a mouse is so much better for when there is PvP)

main worries so far is how I get on with PvP and getting p.... with inventory management. even in the tutorial I managed to run out of space.

so far so good. it does remind me a lot of the division so far which is no bad thing.

Someone did an experiment on Reddit, one player was console, the other was pc, can't remember the actual results but the console guy was getting destroyed by hostile players almost every game, the pc guy almost the opposite.
They both went in as friendly using voice chat comm wheel etc so the moral of the story for pc players is turn off cross play if you don't want it sweaty!!

interesting. given I have an inherant dislike of PvP and all my mates will have it on pc I shall do that.

is it like Fortnite etc where if not enough are playing it fills the world with bots? or do you go in and just not encounter other raiders?

(I assume you don't sit in an endless queue waiting for match making)

No bots, its 21 players on a map and as people leave/get killed, it lets more people in, up until 15 mins have passed in the round and from then on the number of players drops as people die/extract until the end of the round.

Few resources to help manage your inventory a bit better in terms of what you can keep, recycle or sell. (I don't think it's infallible, but the pdf is a live document that's being updated) - Credit to pRoDeeD on Reddit.

If anyone has a link to this cheat sheet it would be much appreciated. I can't seem to find it.

My personal inventory management is that if you're running out of space then you should be crafting more, and taking kits with you rather than running free loadout. You can effectively compress the stash first by deconstructing anything safe to recycle into component parts, they stack neatly into 50x per slot for the base materials.

Then you want to craft + upgrade your guns, a level IV stitcher is waaaaay better than a level I, then craft mods and affix them to the weapons. The mods dont take up any slots when they're attached to weapons, but allow you to keep your spings and tape under control. Basically just keep compressing the inventory. Ultimately it's there to be used anyway once you've used up all your tricks to compress it, you have to take the gear out and fight.
