I am building an arcade cabinet at the moment to run MAME & emulators such as project64 etc.

As I am using older PC parts I have a full size MB with an E6600 and currently an Geforce 8800 graphics card.

However the arcade cabinet is a bartop with very little room, and the 8800 is huge and requires two power cables.

I want to get a small card to replace this (low profile would be great), and one that does not need separate power would also be helpful.

I have not kept up with graphic cards so all these newer cards mean nothing to me.

Anyone make some recommendations on cards to replace the 8800 ??

Ideally i do not want to spend anymore than £50 and will buy secondhand.

cheers

Thanks great sized card but may not run the newer emulators - card is well down on performance to the 8800.

Was also looking at a 6670 which should perform better

huh most emulators bairly touch the graphics card and ones which do simply use them for filtering and maybe to add some aa. You could get away with anything. Even the latest build of pcx2 (ps2 emulator) only uses the graphics card for filtering and upscaling.

The only thing mame uses the gpu for is to add a bilinear filter and some scaling. The only advantage of this is it places the stuff in video memory which is quicker than using system memory. So just grab some cheap passive card with 512mb and you will be fine.
