17,000 - ridiculously hard - im away on holiday for 8 days so wont get a chance to play this one, i dont remember the c64 version being as hard - ive never played the arcade one that much.

39,500 after a few warm ups. That got me to the middle of level two with the trolls in the building with the ladders. I've always found that bit tricky.

Top tips
There's an armour top-up where you meet the red flying guy early in level 1. Jump around a few paces before the last headstone and it drops.

And there's a 10,000 bonus if you jump around a bit in front of the last Venus fly trap of the level.

Finally, never pick up the fire torches. Worst weapon.

49,800 now. Still can't get past the trolls though

E: didn't improve on above score, but got past the trolls. Messed up the moving platforms, though, which I don't remember being hard really. Think I froze up a bit :D

My sort of game this. Alongside Black Tiger and Shinobi (Rastan didn't really do it for me, though) this sort of scrolling arcade platformer is my thing, I think.

I played it a lot on C64 and there was recently a reboot on PC which I tried out, that was just too difficult for me and so very very frustrating.

30,400.

Not sure how but I picked up a 10k bonus item just before the flying hoody thing with the spears on Level 1.

I doomed myself by accidentally picking up the aforementioned fire weapon.

I think some of the 'trophy' items that enemies sometimes drop can be worth quite a lot. The little man wearing a crown might be the high value one.

Or you maybe triggered the 10k bonus drop, though that's in one specific spot

62,800. Made it to mid way through level 2 on first life, then made it to the two boss fight on two occasions but ultimately ran out of skill.

I don't think there's a 10,000 point bonus in level 2.

If I remember correctly, and I'm not certain, if you're really careful you can get one of the bosses onscreen without the other, just don't move too far right.

And I think you're right that there's no 10k on level 2. I can't actually remember if there's one on level 3, though I do remember where there's an armour drop.

43,600 - got most of the way to level 3 - there's just so many of those winged demons and then the little demons, almost made it past them but then died and that caused just a constant fail :D

Had a mad run-through and got pretty far, unti the stupid imps with conkers got me, it's only taken me this long to know that I can destroy the conkers and the lances from the 'ghosts' - didn't try it with the default weapon but the shield can definitely do it.

Anyway it was 81,700 - i'll post a pic later.

Forgot how unforgiving this game is! Still working on the first level. What weapons do people favour? Dagger seems the most comfortable so far.

I actually wrote up something similar to the following but they make more sense than mine - for me, the best is the shield (or cross as it's called ingame) the dagger is very fast but doesn't do as much damage as the lance (or javaelin as it's called below):

  • Javelin
Being the decathlete that he is, our knight begins the game with the javelin. Relatively speaking, this is one of the better weapons. It flies fast and straight and is useful against most foes. The only drawback is that you are limited to a maximum of three shots on screen at one time.

  • Dagger (or as the instruction manual calls it, the "Sword")The dagger is the hands-down winner for best weapon. It's fast, small, and accurate. A flurry of daggers makes up in speed what is lacks in strength, as the dagger is slightly weaker than other weapons. Against flying enemies (who almost always die with one hit) the dagger is especially useful.

  • Flame
This "weapon" goes down as one of the worst offensive threats of all-time in ANY game. The damning feature of the flame: it flares up when it hits the ground. Flames from the conflagration are too weak to injure most enemies and even worse, you cannot throw additional fireballs while the ground fire fizzles out. The flame flies in a slight arc, just high enough to soar over the heads of close-up bad guys. It should come as no surprise that the flame is highly endorsed by Satan and his sinister followers.
Believe it or not, this is a fairly good weapon against the red demon.

  • Axe
Chunky and clunky, the axe is essentially the extinguished counterpart of the flame. It flies in a similar arc and you can only toss two at a time. Obviously, it lacks the "instant campfire" aspect of its fiery cousin, though it must be noted the axe will continue through any enemy it makes contact with. The axe won't show up until the second half of the game and even then, it's a fairly rare find.

  • The Cross (or, as it actually looks like, the Shield)There are two good things about the cross: it can destroy enemy bullets and it is the only weapon you can use to truly beat the final boss of Ghosts N' Goblins. It's also a good rapid-fire weapon. You won't see the cross until you have progressed far into the game (enemies start dropping it on level 5).
Unfortunately, the cross has a very limited range and is ineffective against the Unicorn/Cyclops boss (who, might I add, is ALSO wearing red underwear). If Satan was smart, he'd keep a couple of those guys around as bodyguards.
