Hey guys, just wondered if anyone could shed light on this.

I went to an arcade the other day  and basically love the lightgun games with my mate. I have been looking in auctions for a lightgun coin-op machine but they are quite expensive for what you get.

So i was wondering whats the best platform, game and guns to get so i can just set it up on like my widescreen TV?

Any ideas before Xmas when i have mates over? :p

hmmm

I loved my playstation

Time Crisis !
or there a dreamcast for Hose of the Dead

hmm what console has the most lightgun games?

I'm pretty sure you can get mame compatible light guns. There might be a way to get a proper arcade lightgun from happcontrols.com to work with it.

if you can wait till descember the 8th there is a console comoing out that uses a light gun for all its games. It has motion sensing too. Should be just what your looking for.

after gettin hooked on the time crisis arcade machine (again lol) i modded my old psx gun with a foot pedal to reload :) only problem is there is no recoil :(

i assume if you connected up an old psx gun to one of them psx or ps2 to usb converters you should be able to use it in mame??

So , as a newbie to this, Can someone explain the basics for 2 player PC arcade lightgun recoil gaming?

Equiptment, game, drivers etc :)

Or the console alternative (best one out there)

the nintendo wii (what jaffa reffered to) uses a remote/lightgun type controller with an extra dimension and tilt control. So maybe have a look at that. But the lightgun attachment i think i read i read in the new edge has been cancelled (hopefully not forever tho, hopefully for a redesign)

However from experience i'd recomend a ps2, 2 namco gcon2's and time crisis 2/3 (theres quite a few other ps2 lightgun games too), and consider two ps2's and two widescreen tv's for the ultimate :)

two's the magic number
best

The wii controller is a light gun ut the box, it works as a pointer on the screen, its prob the bit of plastic to make the controller resemble a gun your thinking of. Im sure lots of those will be released by 3rd parties just like the steering wheel holder thing ubisoft came up with.

Buy a Wii. Sorted.

why? Doesnt offer one lightgun game on launch.

Has to be the PS2. Time Crisis 1 and another TC game from PS1 days. Time Crisis 2 & 3 also on PS2, as well as a load of third party ones too...

deff PS2. There used to be a PS gun available as well, 3rd party, which had similar recoil to time crisis arcade efforts.

well considering he loves the light gun thing then there couldnt be a beter solution than a wii. The ps2 has what? 3 light gun games? I really dont see how thats better to spend 130 quid on a ps2 with time crisis 3 and a gun when for 180 he could have a next gen console.

There will doubtlessly be hundreds of 'shooting' games on wii. Red steel alone is a shooting light gun game, thats not on rails! Same for CoD3 and metroid prime.
