I have just fitted my Arctic Freezer 64 Pro and have a quick question.

I'm pretty certain everything is fine but I like to just make sure.

The copper base of the heatsink is smaller than the metal contact area of my AMD64 3700 so there is a surrounding edge of CPU that isn't in contact with the heatsink.

Also although the heatsink is fitted correctly and secure it isn't quite central on the CPU.

So the exposed edges are like this

Front - 0mm
Back - approx 2mm
Left - approx 1mm
Right - approx 3mm

as viewed looking at the fan.

Does this matter - I guess the best I could do is font/back = 1mm and left/right = 2mm

I could take it off and try a bend the brackets a bit but to be honest they look like they are sitting right on the mount.

Any thoughts - never has a heatsink that didn't completely cover the CPU.

Cheers,

Nigel

yeah mine is the same, as long as your temps are fine nothing to worry about :)

From the 64 pro FAQ

"The Cooler doesn't cover the complete CPU
The protection cap of the CPU is a lot larger than the DIE underneath that is to cool. The size of the DIE is just about 14x14mm. Thus not the complete protection cap needs to be covered. A smaller contact area can achieve a better cooling performance since the pressure and therefore the heat transfer in the important area will be higher. "

Thanks for the reassurance - thought it must be okay but wanted to check before I switched it on.

Cheers,

Nigel

Thats only a metal cover, the die itself under the metal cover is around the size of your nail on your pinkie, so the cooler covers it more than enough.
