Arctic Liquid Freezer II AIO - No Fan speed reported?

Hi folks.

I just installed this in my system.
It has one connector which I have connected to the CPU fan connector.

The 3 stock fans then connect to the bale that comes off the tubing at the radiator.

The VRM fan is spinning and the 3No fans are spinning, but the motherboard bios doesn't report any speed.
My thoughts are - how can the fans be controlled if no speed is reported?

I'm tempted to simply connect the fans to the motherboard and then have the pump header on the motherboard.

Searching online, others mention the 0RPM in the bios - but no information or fix.

Any help/input appreciated.
 
Hope its not some design fault as the coolers are amazing. If you can split pump and fans then go for it, hope it works!

If I search online there are a few people saying the same things, but with no fix.

A pain, but not a massive issue I'll connect the pump to the AIO header and run full speed.
I'll then simply connect the fans to the motherboard so I can control those.
 
Altho not directly related I have some vague memories of the first Gen AF II that if you split the fans and the pump they would both give an RPM readout if connected to the appropriate header on the motherboard.
From the second revision onwards (mine is REV 4) the pump no longer carries a RPM signal and so is not readable any more.
Not sure tho why the plug from the fan / pump header is not giving an RPM output on your motherboard, do you see it is you connect it to another header, just to try...?
What AIO is it, the 360 or the 420...? Could the issue be with your motherboard...? What is that btw..?

Mine is also Rev4.
Plugged into the CPU1 header (I think I only have 1 cpu fan header).

Motherboard is MSI MPG Z690 Force.

I have the 360.

I'm assuming yours is exactly like mine.
There's 1 cable that comes off the pump to go to the motherboard.
The fans then connect to the cable that comes out where the tubes are at the radiator.

I haven't tried on another header, but as it is on the CPU header there is 0 reading - I have the header set to PWM.

My main concern is that it isn't actually being controlled in any way at the moment - hence why I was thinking of connecting to the pump header and then connecting the fans separately to the CPU header to be controlled.

I'll try another header tomorrow at some point out of sheer curiousity.
 
Well mine is the 420mm with 140mm fans. Same principle tho.
Mine worked fine on a Z390 and now a Z690 motherboard. In fact it worked on a MSI 690 and now a Gigabyte 690 board. When first fitted on the Gigabyte board the CPU fan header was not set to PWM, that didn't matter as it was still picking up the rotational speed of the three fans. And it controlled them. If you had a four pin PWM extension cable you could try the fans by plugging them directly into that, to rule out an issue with the cable from the AIO. Then again if you had a spare 120 or 140mm fan you could, temporarily, plug that into the CPU header on the motherboard and then the AIO into the CPU OPT header. That would give you some confirmations.

You could see if the RPM, as it is, is being picked up by software within Windows. And do the fans seem to adjust to the temp of the CPU.

You generally find two CPU headers on a board, FAN and OPT.

I have a 360(rev 4) and It just has one connector so I just plugged it in the CPU fan header, think its set to PWM and it shows up in HWiNFO64. From what i have read it controls both the pump and fans, I normally plug the pump in a 12v molex so its on full all the time and use the CPU header for the fans but did not bother with this cooler. Temps are good, not as good as some report but better than my old H100i.
 
Finally figured it out.
The default fan profile for the CPU temp (in bios/idle) was so low that although spinning, the motherboard wouldn't display it.

After fiddling around and increasing this, I noticed the speed was then being measured by the motherboard fine.
A quick and dirty fan profile is now setup and I'm glad to say that all seems ok.

I initially swapped the AIO to the pump header which read a speed and then connected a fan to the CPU header, which read a speed which led me to fiddling around.

Cheers chaps - I thought I was going to have to go get a different cooler!! :)
