Arctic Silver on E6700

Hey guys,

I'm wanting to install arctic silver onto a E6700 (arrives tomorrow!). This is my first time using arctic silver and I'm confused as to how much to put on the CPU.

The official website shows a long line (about 1") on the CPU, but I've also read a size the piece of a grain of rice would work well.

Also, will the E6700 come with any TIM material already on the heat spreader?

Any advice/opinions on the matter are greatly appreciated :)

Do what the site says for your certain CPU type, it varies for Single Core, Dual core and Quad Core.
Or do as I have always done and spread a thin coating over complete IHS but you need to know the IHS is flat ideally to know how much TIM to apply.

I cant find out on the intel site on how much to put on my quad core?

Can anyone help if its different ammounts for differnt chips?

Thanks

Okay, firstly remove the default thermal paste from you heatsink. The best thing to use is Isopropal cleaning solution, but I have heard that vinegar also does the trick - just make sure the heatsink base is clean and dry before installing.

Put a small blob of AS (I use about 2 grains of rice size on C2D's) onto the CPU itself. Then place the Heatsink on top and wriggle gently from side to side. You can then boot into bios and check your temps are not too high.

Just the instructions on their site are very vague.

When you say 2 grains of rice, are they being placed at the centre of the CPU?

Yes, place in the dead centre. It will spread automatically when you apply the heatsink and wiggle it a bit.

here's what i do i spread a very thin layer half a grain of rice accross
the whole surface then put another half grain in the middle then seat the heatsink works well.
