Are 18 Month Contracts Going?

sims free is the way forward, yes you have to folk out for a phone, but the resell value on a smart phone 12 months on via ebay is incredibly good compared to other IT stuff.

My HTC desire will still fetch say £275 on ebay. and then i could buy the Desire HD for £450, its just the first outlay that whacks you. i will never tie myself to a 18 month/ 24 month again as i like the idea of moving abroad in the next few years

24 month contracts are fine, provided your handset lasts 24 months. Or has suitable cover, 12 month manufacturer's warranty isn't going to cut it - nor is "well if you take out the insurance plan for 24 months..."

Never will I lock myself into 24month, they always push for 24 in shops but then the deals they offer always seem 1 price band higher than the minutes etc they provide. They wanted £100 for a desire on a £30 400min band. On ya bike go online get it for free with more minutes etc.

I'm on a 24 month contract, as it goes. I'm not arsed, as it gives me more than I need and will do for the foreseeable future. I bought my iPhone outright second hand and sold the E71 that came with the contract, so I've got a decent phone either way. The contract I'm on is £20 a month for 400 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited Internet, which isn't miles off O2's SIM only contracts, especially given you have to pay for a data bolt on with those.

I'm not arsed about a longer contract when it's so cheap.

I told three that i was moving to o2 unless as i'm not settling for a 24 month, they gave me an 18 and i had been on 12 for 4 years.

i remember when i got my n95 which was on an 18 month contract and i thought how crap it was that i'd be stuck with the same phone for so long. i ended up being with it for something stupid iike 2.5 years as there was never anything out that was better. when i finally decided to stop waiting for the n97 and go for the hero i was more then happy to go with the cheaper 24 month as i figured i'd be with it for ages anyway. with android phones now that's all changed and now i want only 12 month contracts or shorter.

I got a Galaxy S for free on a 18 month 900 minute, 500 texts and unlimited internet contract last week with £35 cash back.

I am not getting another contract after this, it will be sim only and unlocked phones.
You can see how it is going as all Mobile phone websites are defaulting to 24 month contracts when you look at phones. 18 months is bad enough, 2 years with no get out is just mental.

its strange how it works... Apple for example release each summer, so if you sign a 18month you will always be out of sync with there new handsets, its all very well making 18month and 24 month deals, but the speed handsets come out its really hard for me to sign one liking to have the latest gadgets - for that reason i stay out of contract now
