SILENCE!
Just drilled into a coconut and poured the milk out of it. First sip and *blech!* it's all salty :(

It got me thinking, are all coconuts sweet or is this just a bad one? Just going down to the garage to saw it in half so I'll let you know what the flesh tastes like in a mo.

I guess this one may be destined to be a candle holder rather than dinner.

I once tried a proper coconut and the milk tasted awful, so then we decided to try the flesh and it tasted bland. Bounty tricked us! :( If you get ready shredded coconut then its always nice though :)

You do realise what you tasted was coconut water, not coconut milk? Coconut milk is mushed up flesh.

Yes, there can be slightly salty coconut water and flesh. It's not bad or off, just not that good (Don't think I've ever had an out-of-date coconut). You can't tell really if you are buying just the one. A plantation or tree should be producing similar coconuts. I have many years' experience of buying coconuts on the beach, getting them sliced open with a machete, drinking the water with a straw, then eating the flesh using a piece of the outer skin crudely shaped like a spoon. Resfreshing.

why did you need to go to the garage to open a coconut?

You've got a forehead haven't you?

Be alpha.

I was going to carefully saw it in half so I can use the shells to make a candle holder for the missus. Dropped it in the end so she'll have to go without.
