Are cheap airbrush kits really that bad?

so then after putting it off for a few months today I got the AS 186 delivered from Amazon along with some cleaner (I already has airbrush thinners for some of the thicker paints)

any tips on starting out spraying? I was thinking about picking up some cheap foamcore and making a makeshift spray fold away booth for about £5 so I don't get in trouble from the wife for painting the kitchen table a new colour(s)

I wasn't sure on the idea but I cant seem to get along with brush on primer and at £7+ for a can on primer that does about 15-30 models I thought it was worth a punt as my current list is:
to finish: Space Hulk (genestealers primed but still to start but the marines are nearly complete, Zombicide - fatties and a couple of runner done, Imperial Assault - storm troopers, ATAT and droids done but im not too happy with some of them so may need repeating once I get the hang of spraying.

And still to Start: Super Dungeon Explore and Sedition wars (only purchased for the minis as it was £20, might be my practice pieces for the spraying) and Dark Souls board game backed on kickstarter so I have a year to get through the others as I want to be good by the time I do dark souls.

If you want to practice possibly one of the best ways is to get some vallejo primer (about £12 for 200ml, available in something like 12 colours last time I looked), as that is both something you'll be using and cheap enough to waste some :)

To give an idea of how far vellejo primer will go, from memory I used a fraction of one of the big bottles doing about 200 nids of various sizes.

that's the stuff I have been trying to brush on (got a 200ml bottle of white) and its a pain in the ass to get it working with a brush as it seems to bubble a lot, I found mixing it with black to give a dark grey worked well but ill give it a go neat on some of the models see how it goes.
