ARE CONROE ANY GOOD FOR GAMES

thing is i need to build the kids a comp for xmas pressie they want something that will play games and dvds so my thinking is if i get a conroe ,ram and uatx mobo that can go in my sugo and my 939 stuff can go in a nice case for the kids

My super pi was just under 16 secs @ 3.5ghz.

In counterstrike source im getting about 120fps (min) - 180fps (max). That's with my 1900xt @ stock , and cpu @3.5ghz.

Running @ 1680x1050, 6X adaptive AA, and 16X High quality AF. It really is a beutiful to site to behold.

Got my 6600 yesterday and thought I'd compare my exisiting CSS video stress results to what my new hardware could do, here's the break down:

Old setup:

A64 4000 @ 2.95Ghz (X2 heat pipe cooler)
2GB RAM - Geil Value DDR 400 @ Cas 2.5
ATi Radeon 1900xtx @ auto overclock
ATi Cats 6.9
My own config (nicer gfx than caseys thus less fps)
Result: 298fps

New Setup:

Conroe 6600 @ 3.6Ghz (zalman 9500)
2GB RAM - Gskill DDR 800 @ Cas 5
ATi Radeon 1900xtx @ auto overclock
ATi Cats 6.9
My own config (nicer gfx than caseys thus less fps)
Result: 464.9fps

hmm now you just need a monitor that'll display 400 fps!!! Big Johnny go for SD4000+ mate if you need a bump, like the man said, but really overclocking is the cheapest option!
 
yes but

a) i am not really good on o/c setting this and that

b) my gigabyte mobo aint the best for o/c anyway

c) just how much could i really push my current cpu in a sugo case with stock heatsink

d) ram is geil value although its great ram i dont think it has a very good threshold for higher mhz


taking all that into account what do you think now lol

should i just get the kids a cheapy set up with a 15 inch tft and whack my 6800gs in there then buy myself a 7900gs


tbh honest the only game really play in pro evo and titan quest at the minute

welcome to the forums! :)

Stock Volts means the voltage required to run a specific CPU at its normal speeds i.e: My CPU has a stock voltage of 1.35v

It's set by the manufacturer and normally written on the retail package somewhere. . .

theres a nice am2 3800 processer on ocuk for 79 then the motherboard these combined would cost the same as just the duo 2 and on a budget seems pretty good

Thanks for the explanation! I suppose increasing the stock voltage would increase performance but also the need for cooling? (This is making me feel dumber! :rolleyes: )

Yep you're right, more voltage = more heat = more cooling needed.
