Are Dells the only choice right now?

There is basically what I like to think as a 3-tier discount system:

1) DELL discount - Do nothing, dell deal on website so auto-discounted
2) 10% off - These discount code can be found around, I cant post the link but just put that into google and you will find the code like I did
3) 5% extra off - This is where you logon to Quidco.com, and then when you click on dell through them, they will give you 5% back on your purchase, which is one of the easiest things you can do.

So at the end of the day, I paid £719 immediate, but then after about a month, you will get 5% of that on your "Quidco" account, which brings it under £700!

I just recently bought a machine from Dell.

Base price = £1,999
£200 off promotion = £1,799
10% Discount Coupon = £1,619
5% Quidco = £1,538

Thats 25% off without even trying too hard. The coupon was posted on these boards, and afaik 10% coupons run pretty much all the time.

Marked up from what though? Every company is out to make a profit otherwise they wouldnt be in business. Of course they arent going to sell to you at a loss. But the difference is in the margin they are making.

You find me a dual 8800GTX SLi 17" laptop for £1500 anywhere else, much as I dislike Dell's business model the fact is they win hands down on value at the moment.

yeah i did notice a 20" HP lappy on a competitor website with a Nvidia 8800m ! for a dang good price (not a dell) but im not in the market to buy yet.

But if i was i'd be going for that.

Either you've got a very big lap or you want a fold up desktop PC...

I bought my Dell xps 1530 with 2.1 penryn, 250gb HD, 2gb ram, 8600GT ddr3, finger print reader, bluetooth, bluetooth mouse, built in webcam, creative headphones.

If theres another make that can put this out at under £500 like the one i bought, then its worth looking at other makes, the near as damn it asus that is the same is over a grand for the same spec.

JediFragger
Where did you see this, if it was on their web site, have they taken it off, would not mind 1 for my son

I wish that I could have seen that price on the bargain forums or on the Dell website, as I had to pay £719 for my model, the only difference is that I got it with a T9300 Penrym.

You lucky people that managed to get it for only £500!!

I just hope this laptop of mine will be something that is very, very long lasting, as thats the only reason for me to justify the total cost of it, after factoring in the 64-bit Ultimate OS & the Ram additionals

I just specced up a £235 Vostro laptop on Dell and they wanted over £100 for delivery and VAT. No way in hell i'm paying an extra 33% for the luxury of having it brought to my home!
