Are hard drive serial numbers in the firmware or only on the label?

I ask as one of the serial number on the hard drive label has worn off, and I was wondering if the serial number of the hard drive is also on the hard drive firmware also?

Or is my warranty now no more?

The serial number is in the smart data, run HD tune or crystaldiskinfo to show it.
