Are Kolink PSU any good?

And for the record guys, if we didn't have faith in Kolink we wouldn't sell the brand. They have the lowest return rates of ANY brand we sell. ANY BRAND. We sell a lot, with overwhelmingly positive feedback. They do the job required of them for a price that few can match. I wouldn't use them personally but I can afford to buy a PSU by a premium manufacturer, not everyone can, or they need something to do the job without any fuss on a budget. If I needed something that's competitively priced for an older build though I wouldn't hesitate in using a Kolink PSU.

There is a market for this level of PSU and I believe Kolink are at the top of the pile compared to the vast amounts of crap that is available elsewhere. Plus, who else from these cheap brands has a 1200W Platinum unit on the market that has reviewed very well? There will be more in 2017 too.

But OCUK sell the KL-1000M 1000W 80 Plus Bronze Modular Power Supply

And Kolink is not mentioned on the 80+ site for having and bronze power supply's

Hi deuse,

I'm sorry test report for Kolink KL-1000M isn't live in 80 Plus database yet. I will check status with 80 Plus organisation. I hope the report will be released soon.

In the end everyone in the PSU industry is complaining about 80 Plus. Their program is famous, easy to understand and the fees are reasonable. However they aren't exactly customer-friendly and fast. In real life it can easily take >6 months between sending the sample and report beeing published. Even A-brands like Corsair launch their products with 80 Plus logo and claim before reports are published. In the end measuring efficiency is not so hard. If you have well maintained Chroma equipment just add some margin and you know, what 80 Plus level your product qualifies for.

Some brands send early R&D samples for certification, so testing is long done before frist batch will be produced. However this means the product actually sold will be different from the PSU sent for certification which is rather normal, but technically against 80 Plus terms & conditions. We don't feel comfortable following this example of our competitiors. So far, 80 Plus published the test reports for our PSU step by step. I don't remember any certification problems so far. Except some models are more efficient according to 80 Plus than what we advertise. This has been happening for two reasons: 80 Plus testing methodology is slightly different from ours. Also we are rather careful and keep some extra margin. PSU are analogue technolgy. There isn't just "works" and "dead" in mass production. There is some delta in efficiency between the units in mass production, so we better have some extra safety margin.

Anyway, if there are any questions about Kolink PSU just let me know.

for £40 i would suggest the cx450, mine only powers like a less than 80w system, but its quiet and should provide the power you need so long you dont want to overclock, has like 448w on the 12v rail, its the grey/white label which is the updated range to be better.

Crap. The Core series are below the KL series in their line up and the KL series have terrible quality components inside them so I dread to think of what rubbish they have used in the core series. Have a look at the 2nd image that shows the label and increase the size. That so called 1000w psu only has 744w on it's 12v rail and I am doubtful of even that much. Underneath the breakdown of the rails you can also see that Kolink also advise that total continous power should not exceed 800w and on top of that it only has a 2 year warranty which shows that even Kolink has no faith in their products. Do you really think you are going to get a 1000w psu for £40 that is any good? With psu's you get what you pay for so buy a quality unit from a reputable manufacturer.

looking at this one the Continuum 1200W 80 Plus Platinum psu, at the moment £119...anyone got any info on these....at that price I am very tempted but would like some opinions ;)

Why do you need 1200W ?

Gets a good review from Kitguru

Techpowerup find a few issues, although they still give it the 'good value' award

I probably just had a bad one, but I bought a Kolink 500M semi-modular and it popped in less than 24 hours. I should never have even plugged it in because it was as light as a feather and the connectors just seemed badly moulded so I just didn't have confidence in connecting everything up - inconsistent friction, no reassuring clicks.

Fortunately it didn't take any of my hardware with it, but I'll never touch one again.

yea I wouldn't even consider a cheap model....I was asking about the high end Platinum range.

I did a search for the Kolink KL700w to see if there had been any proper reviews yet as someone in another thread was looking at buying one. One of the first results was a thread by a guy on another forum (anandtech I believe it was) asking if they were any good. One of the replies was from a guy who had bought 4x KL700w, the first blew up after a couple of days, the other three couldn't even power pc's with 400w at the wall power draw and kept shutting down. That pretty much backs up everything I have been saying about this brand since they appeared on here, garbage. The Core and KL series would seem to be barely a step above a generic no-name psu and the company shows little faith in their own products with just a 2 year warranty and statements on the power rails breakdown not to exceed a certain power which is quite a bit below the total power it is supposed to be able to provide. I bet if Jonnyguru got hold of a Core and KL series we would have another death of a gutless wonder review.

The Continuum series seems to be capable and so it should be for a much higher price but it still only has a 5 year warranty and reviews put them to be mediocre at best with scores between 8.4/10 and 8.6/10. With the choice of quality psu's available at competitive prices, often with 7 and 10 year warranties I wouldn't even look at one that scores less than 9/10, preferably higher and preferably reviewed by Jonnyguru or Techpowerup, both of which do thorough teardowns as part of their reviews.

What did you supply with it?
