are Man U going the same way as Liverpool?

the Premier League should have a rule, that if you have to borrow all or most of the money to buy a club. then you are not allowed to buy.

this would stop the stupid situation of buying a profit making club, and immediately plunging them into debt.
I agree completely. I just hope utd don't have to go through the same debacle as Liverpool are currently going through to get their finances sorted.

Both the respective previous owners of Liverpool and Utd should ashamed of the deals they accepted when they sold the clubs. Especially Liverpool who had significantly more viable cash offer from DIC on the table which they decided to turn down.

At the end of the day no-one is going to come in and buy Utd for the rumoured £1.5bn the Glazers are reported to want, its still overpriced by a conservative £300m at the very least

The Glazers are allowed to remove huge amounts of cash in the next few years (upto around £180m or something extortionate like that) and with how badly their malls are doing, I wouldnt be surprised if that happens at some point

The club can cope for the time being, Im just not convinced how long it can last (especially without a HUGE injection of top quality players - and I dont mean players with promise, I mean those that have already proven themselves and have a good 5 - 10 years still to go in their careers)

If these prospective buyers cannot afford a club without saddling the club with debt and then milking the profits for years on - Then why sell.

Surely Man utd and Liverpool were ill advised to sell up,

OR surely the original seller knew the facts but gained financially - but cared less about the clubs future detriment and the fans, without whom the club would be nothing.

Then as much hostility to the former owners is as just as to the Glazers or in Liverpools case to Hicks and Gillett.

The good thing about united is even if results start getting even worse, and they miss out on CL football and cant attract players or what ever, then they can t ask as much.
Even if they ask for the £700 million that the debt is, there will be no shortage of people who will pay it.

Agreed, United would still get a buyer even if things went belly up on the pitch. The Red Knights said they would be willing to bid again as soon as the Glazers are willing to listen to sensible offers, and I'm sure they aren't the only potential buyers were the price to drop.

Having said that, it seems that the only way the Glazers will ever lose control of the club is through a ridiculously overpriced offer which nobody is going to make, or due to the club going into administration. I think the latter is more likely!
