Are Miele washing machines worth the premium?

I have a Miele vacuum cleaner and it's the mutts nuts, no gimmicks (it even still uses a bag, bit inconvenient) but it's built like a tank, cleans better than the Dyson it replaced and I'm sure will probably outlast me.

Just had a new kitchen fitted. Brand new Miele induction hob and Miele dishwasher.

I kid you not, the hob has been replace 3 times. The dishwasher just failed and will probably have to be replaced. Not sure if I'm just really unlucky or their kit is getting worse (a bit like Mercedes).

You can spend £400 on an LG and it will be just as good as a Miele.

Just fitted a kitchen for a M8 and we took his LG to the tip, it was 4 years old noisey as hell and dropping to pieces and had been repaired twice. Think they paid around £479 for it, only used it 3 or 4 times a week, they also really look after thier stuff so it wasn't abused.

Statistically the best brands are Indesit and Beko.

Engineers receive less calls about those brands than any other and that doesnt mean that its because know one buys them as they are also ranked as the most popular.

Miele is the kind of washing machine you'll still have in 30 years time, they're well made, full of features, they work great and they're worth servicing.

3 LG machines in 4 years and it hasn't been abused?

What on earth are you basing that on!

From an engineer that goes out to fix washing machines when they break, the 20odd years he has been doing it and the fact a man doing that for a living would know better seeing what he sees on a daily basis than a load of blokes on an internet forum assuming that expensive means reliable because # gadget / brand snobbery lol!

I agree, someone doing it for a living would know better.

And statistically, McDonalds make the best food, because they get less complaints per meal than expensive restaurants.

Last time I had an engineer out for my old Indesit washer/dryer, he told me how bad they were getting and how they failed far more often than they did a few years back because of cheaper components and worse build quality.

They are a sub brand of hotpoint so i guess anything is possible on some of the newer SKUs. Older ones that are highly reliable may be keeping the brand floating about the rest in terms of reliability then, would be interesting to see how much more reliable the older units are than the new ones if this is the case,

They aren't a sub brand, they just bought the name because people in this country associate Hotpoint with reliability.

You have the original Hotpoint machines, when Hotpoint were Hotpoint and you now have the rubbish churned out by Indesit with the Hotpoint name on it.

The difference is cosmetic only.

We brought a Miele washing machine back from Germany in 1996 and only replaced it about 18 months ago, before that it hadn't missed a beat to me it's the pioneer of washing machines we replaced it with another Miele washing machine.

Where did i say they had 3 machines in 4 years?
If you read my post again i said they only used the machine 3 or 4 times a week and that it had been repaired twice in 4 years.
It may have been a one off but this particular machine was very poor.

I imagine this is due to the fact people just dump them and get a new one rather than get an engineer round to service them.

Only have good things to say about my LG Direct Drive - massive drum/capacity (I can fit a Kingsize Duvet in it) and quiet as a mouse.

I considered Miele/Bosch but the price and the small capacity put me off.

I'd never go back to a small drum - it saves so much time being able to have one larger wash in place of two smaller ones with added bonus that the dryer is more efficient as the clothes have more room to "tumble".

I would love a LG washer dryer for the large capacity, but they are so deep, they don't fit sensibly under a standard 60cm worktop, unless you don't mind it sticking out 10cm. You don't realise it till you see all the different makes lined up in a shop, but there is a huge difference in depth between the makes/models. It's the sort of thing you need a proper laundry room for.
