Heading over to the states and just so happen to lose my phone last week. damn christmas party! what kind of ******* recharges your phone just to use up £10 in credit and refuse to answer. a pox on his christmas!
anyway, is it worth picking up a phone in the states or just go with whats available here.
will be looking for something pretty basic, as i'm getting an itouch which will cover the music/ gadgetty side of things.

Phones in the US lag behind Europe and picking up a cheap one won't be worth it as it will be locked and probably missing the desired frequency ranges for permanent use in the UK.

The old Sony Ericsson's with extending aerials are not uncommon to see over there in daily use. I was stunned last time I went over (granted, over a year ago, but not a decade or anything).

Am in Canada at the moment and even here the mobiles are far behind the UK...my bro loves my N95 8gb...even his friends havent seen anything like it.

But generally phones here feature wise are far behind the UK...they love their flip phones here ie Motorola Razrs etc are common place.

The iPhone is cheaper but other phones are generally more expensive. Also be aware that a lot of US phones won't work over here (any branded Verizon, Sprint, Nextel or Alltel). Their 3G phones are also unlikely to work on our 3G networks.
