Are Nvidia drivers really better than AMD?

Had a 5850 for a year, no problems. Had a GTX 480 for half a year, so far, no problems.
If I were to take a guess, I'd say that certain hardware configurations maybe what cause these driver problems. Which would mean it's luck if you don't get problems with graphics cards.
Heard a lot of people say they had problems with BC2 with AMD, mine was always flawless.

Maybe it is just me, but having owned numerous AMD and Nvidia cards, I have never had a problem with any of the drivers.
I can never understand why people moan so much? Are you downloading beta versions or something?

Well take Menty example, AMD indeed had issues in BF2 depending on the setup, but NV also had the similar issues depending on the setup.
So both users switch brands and the problems are solved in BF2 for there set-ups and each thinks the problem is common only to other brand.
Well to be fair to AMD I blamed the drivers but when I changed to a P67/2500K set up last year I did not have such problems afterwards.
Did I happen to find a good set of drivers or was the problem hardware related?
I was undecided but was not concerned as I was able to play the game normally.
The little issues I have now 'driver stopped responding and has recovered' might be related to my cards OC rather than the drivers but it's easy to lay blame I suppose.

Orignally I used to always go AMD because:
1. Less heat & noise.
2. Monthly drivers is a plus for me.
3. They alwasy seem to support latest standards (sooner), which Nvidia do not.
If Nvidia drivers are no better than AMD's why has there been a build up of consensus that Nvidia produce better drivers?
It cant of just come from thin air.

That consensus comes from a time when ATI was really bad and the reputation can stick no matter the change and people will repeat what they have heard.
Just like people think CF cards must run at the same clocks when they never have had to, years after its been out and the majority still think so.
I read on the NV forum that there is a conflict with a realtek driver or Asus Xonar driver, not a thought is given to AMD in that regard they just seem to get blamed outright.
All my friends, colleges and acquaintances who i have built AMD PCs for have less issues than me, their PCs are simpler and just seems to work effortlessly i only ever had one come back because of incompatible RAM that would crash the AMD driver in WOW..

I have had real problems with AMD 12.1 drivers during the past week. I don't think AMD's shoddy driver problems are confined to history just yet. Saying that, I have had very few problems with ATI/AMD dirvers during the past 10 years or so, but there is no smoke without fire and they is certainly plenty of smoke.

I haven't and it its not as if my setup is simple, there will always be a shoddy driver now and then for some people.
Are all these users going to say the same about NV as the latest driver has real problems for some as well (a lot of new people signing up to report problems on this driver) and the 6 months of vista and the card killer fan stopping drivers.

If i was on NV right now it would be using 590 as i like dual GPU cards and you know how likely my experience would be snap crackle and pop.

No problems here either, the last problem I had was release day CrossFire for Skyrim, but Nvidia had driver issues too.
BAC Crossfire was pretty pathetic tbh, not played it since due to the poor coding, when I get round to it I'll give it another go with the patch, but iirc CrossFire is still pretty rubbish compared to a single 7970@1080p.

Most of the problems are more likely to be CF related, the more you have the more have to go wrong + eyefinity on the 7xxx with CF.
Ignorances is bliss for NV as most of the users post the problems there and in specific NV sub forums while chanting the opposite elsewhere.
But this was strange seeing as it's a NV title and BF3 on the next page, its really is down to the individual setup to whether your going to have issues on either brand.

Well I owned a 9600GT for a good year or two and had no issues with it what so ever, upgraded to a 5770 and had nothing but trouble with the drivers and thought ATI did a horrible job on that front, thats put me off them for a good while. I then upgraded to a 560TI and have loved being back to Nvidia. My friend now has the 5770 and hates ATI as he's also having driver issues. Each to his own I guess.

Never had any problem with either. Had a 5770 for a long time and had no driver problems at all. I update to the latest drivers most of the time.

This sounds like pebcak or a faulty card to me. I owned a 5770 for a good while and it was a great littld card if not a little underpowered. The fact that 2 different users are having loads of problems on a card that has very mature drivers says to me inexperience with amd or faulty card.

I have had a 5870 for the past 2 years and never had any driver issues really, nothing I can really think of. One of my best friends has an nvidia 560Ti and has so many issues, he can't even run ultra textures on BF3 without it running out of vram no matter what drivers he uses...
