It seems everywhere I look people are trying to sell their Nvidia cards (460, 470, 480)

Are Nvidia planning a price drop due to new products or something?

Whats your thoughts on this or is it just in my head?

I've hardly seen any 4xx series cards for sale. I think there have been 3 480s on the MM since launch and probably about the same for the others in the line up.

Compare this to the amount of 58/7xx series cards and you might get a different picture of things.

I think the only price drops are likely to take place when SI launch.

Yes NVIDIA have done a price drop and OcUK has implemented it.

GTX 480 at £350ish
GTX 470 at £230ish
GTX 465 at £170ish

You will see OcUK's pricing is already around this. All other cards have no price movement.

Have they gone down due to 485 coming out soon or because of 6 series which is around the corner?

Should the 480 go down to £280-300 anytime soon?
 
I think the 480 is outstanding value at £350 for all the card you get, fermi has been out a few months now, stocks are up and prices can fall but don't expect much better than £350 for a 480.
 
new top end cards always come down in price after they've been out a few months.

i cant see the 480 going sub 300 anytime soon thou.

maybe a few more budget ones knocking another £10 off

This tbh. Nvidia won't make any price adjustments now until ATI releases its refresh, and even then they may not actually change the price of their current lineup (ie add a faster card at a higher pricepoint)

Who knows, they could just go EOL and disappear to be replaced by a more expensive GTX 485 part, but as of yet unknown.
 
I think they made the price change to make fermi competative, simple as that.

You wont see a price drop now until possibly October/November when the ATI next gen comes out.


It's amazing that the 5850 and 5870 are still at or over their launch price almost 1 year ago. I was kind of expecting ATI to drop them to £175/£250.

Fair play to Nvidia, it's the first time since launch that I can't recommend a 5850, I think your choice is either 460 or 470 around that price bracket.

Yea I have to agree. 5850 now is only worth considering if you can get it for at least under £200...if you have to get a 5850 above the £200, you'd be better off just get the GTX470 at £220 ish.

It is a bit depressing isn't it. ATI appears to have become complacent, hoping residual interest will ensure people keep buying the cards even though Nvidia have a comparable lineup at lower prices =/ Makes me feel dirty owning a 5870
 
I think with ATI gaining a larger market share, they will if you like become more like Nvidia with how they price as they can dictate the market a bit more. At the end of the day ATI's cards are still good performers even nearly a year after release so i do not think they need to alter the price by that much.
