Are OCUK Forums in decline?

I hadn't noticed any change, although it is amusing to see how posters go up and down in their post frequency. I can rarely be bothered to get involved in serious discussion anymore.

ErgoFlex

I kinda want to ask about memory foam mattress toppers. Is this along the same lines as spec me a toaster? :)
I bought an ErgoFlex some time ago. it's great, keeps you toasty warm and is incredibly comfortable :)

I did initially consider a Tempur (having slept on one for a month or so) but they are much more expensive.

The only gripe I have is that the cover rucks up :(

It's gone downhill ever since people felt like it was such a right-wing forum that they could post racist bile without repercussion and a whole lot of approval and agreement. The moderating team has done a weak attempt of curbing it by posting a blithe religious thread warning but what good has that done? It's simply made people change the term from 'Muslims' to 'immigrants/pakis' instead.

If I was a moderator I would have closed all far-right threads immediately and perma-banned those who made the threads. Don't give me the 'right to expression' rubbish either, these people are treated in exactly the same way in society. There is no place and no need for it, and failure to act on it is the same as approval in my opinion.

Agreed. Moderation on racism needs to be a lot tougher.

The people that make those threads are promptly (and quite rightly) put into place by 99% of the forum - free to post rubbish and get duly criticised for it.

If anything comes up that I feel is obviously out of order, then I will let the mod team know.

Whilst I abhor racism (I'd be a hyporcrite if I didn't :p), censoring debate is daft as it would kill the forums. Sure I accept and agree that rude and inappropriate comments should be moderated/removed, however, you can't really ban someone for saying "I hate black/white/asian/etc... people" can you? It would set an ugly precendent.

As long as people can have healthy and polite debate then I don't see the problem.

Admittedly if someone goes out of their way to spout trash such as "all black/white/asian/etc... people are this that or the other..." without a reasoned articulate debate I will completely agree that's pure trolling.

I'm happy to take on board criticism, and I will (I speak for myself here, but will of course take it up with the other moderators) endeavour to act better at balancing the debates/arguments into a less controversial style.

However, you need to RTM the comments, and/or email one of the mod team with how you've construed the offending posts and explain how it could be perceived as inappropriate.

Believe it or not, we're here to help and try and improve the forums, not overly moderate them. I admit we have to be tough at times, but they are for containment purposes, I honestly feel that in general this place is quite relaxed.
