Are OcUK one of the best quality forums?

Yeah some forums are full of elitist types "oh you must do this or you'll get carpal tunnel and die" or "you must hate someone along with me or i'll hate you"
Sounds like OCUK to me...

Mostly your average forum, just a lot of people on it.

Its Sunday afternoon and Ive had a great day with my kids visiting and far too much good beer/wine.....so, as a relatively very old man here, I have thoroughly enjoyed this forum over many years.

What really cemented it in my mind as a form of community was all the stuff that surrounded Zoltan, his posts, his life, his passing, and all that followed on this forum.

one of my favourite things about this forum is the limit on signature sizes. I cant stand forums where people have about 5 flippin sigs, meaning it takes forever to scroll down the page.

That's definately true.

Besides the obviously well setup rules and standards, it's simply the members for me, especially those in the sports section. You do get quite a lot of pretentious idiots who have an apparant lack of real life experience or social ability, but what else is to be exepceted on the forum of a technology retailer.

You know you'll always receive a response to your questions and with such a variety of generally intelligent people, it can't be a bad thing.

A very good forum. Although probably not the most intellectual or witty board I frequent, it is definitely the most varied in terms of user-base and subject matter (odd considering as it was originally founded as a place for geeks like myself to discuss computers and chip overclocking).

There are a few notable exceptions to the forum's otherwise unblemished record however, such as the propensity for users to forget how apostophes work, the often racist/political agendas of some posters, and last, and by no means least, those stupid relationship threads. The perpetrators of the latter are usually pre-puberscent, so all in all, it's probably forgivable.

Like everything in life, the forums could be better, but they could be one hell of a lot worse!!!

Keep up the good work guys.

Same for me. Good boards well moderated (well most of the time anyway). A good variety of topics in the life sections and a wealth of knowledge in all of the other sections.

Some of the "Spec me a................" are not to my liking as some of them are nothing more than laziness or the wonder of search engines haven't reached some peoples PC's yet.

Here every night or so, don't post much, but read a lot!

Only one other forum that I would visit on a regular basis is xbox-scene.com's forums, as they (used to) provide me with a lot of information on the xbox and how it all worked, and it basically got me to where I am today (working full time as a software developer) as I would never have thought about software dev without first becoming interested in the xbox!

I love the communtiy feeling here, and the fact that a post is replied to almost instantly by genuine professionals and the majority of posts are in direct relation to the thread topic.

The sig and sweary rules are great and the forums are THE fastest to load anywhere! Really good, keep up the great work OcUK!

An observation - the fact that we have strict family rules and hardly any insults (plus a copious team of mod who sometimes seem to live on these forums) mean that we have one of the most pleasant-to-browse forums?

Just surfing a few others for information and I didn't realise just how much of a haven for insults and unneccesary bad language forums can be...
There is nothing more annoying than a good thread that gets turned into a flame fest... but this rarely happens on OCUK from what I've seen. Hooray for rules and mods. :)

I do go on other forums, but I find my self on OCUK most of the time. I think that most of the members here seem friendly and easy going. Hooray for members. :)

Being UK based is nice too... After going on an international forum (with mostly Americans and a few Canadians on), so much is irrelevant for a UK member. There was a 30 page thread about the fact that milk comes in bags in Canada FFS!

I used to just read the posts here, then registered, and now I spend a fair bit of time on here!

I agree with many points, the rules are just fine - no oversized sigs, no swearing, etc etc.

I don't agree with how some members, as far as I can see, seem to have found a way to be a total annoyance without actually getting banned. I've seen a number of instances where the post is clearly flamebait, however it's worded in a way so that it doesn't look like one. RTMing said post didn't seem to work either.

Still, it doesn't stop me coming back! :D

The good thing about OCUK forums, is that you can generally express and say a lot more than other forums. I mean, I used to use guru3d forums, and you can't say anying out of place, the mods (ICEBIRD - what a bitch) are far too tough, and you can say anything remotely un-PC.

At least here you can **** off gays, muslims and any other race colour creed! ;)

Which is the number one thing that annoys me about this forum, the same people push the same views all the time and after a while it just grates.

If i wanted to go into a forum thats slags off gays and muslims then i'd join the BNP, not a computer hardware forum.

This place is still great for getting educated answers for tech issues but the rest has gone down hill since i joined...noticably.

I particularly don't like the way that SC politics and arguements have spilled out into GD, i'd prefer more random crap jokes than another thread on immigration and welfare.

I believe their has been another round of improvements as seemingly a fair number of people have been permabanned or suspended over the weekend.

Possibly an attempt to get things back to what is viewed as acceptable?

was looking through a recent thread and a number of posters who had posted on the 29th / 30th had suspended under their name - VIRII was the name I recognised the most but there were one or two others. Could have just been a coincidence.

In one thread the following are now on holiday:

Wunkley
Virii
wozzer
dafloppyone

This is the only forum I read regularly now, so can't really compare, but the admins seem to keep things under control which is good.

How many threads in GD discuss computer hardware?
