Hi All,

Im looking into buying a good comfy chair for my PC desk and wonder if you ever splashed ~200 quid on one...

Is it seriously worth it?
I need to use it ~3-5 hours a day max, and up to 8 on weekends if I stay up and play or work on my computer.

Main point is to sit in a correct position, reduce strain on my back and support all the right parts.
No fancy speakers or other usless stuff.

What would you recommend?

Thanks!!

I have a Charles Jacobs Chair that cost me £99 and was easy to intall and is super comfy and ergonomic. I'm not too sure about the links to competitors rule though so if i'm allowed I'll give you the link. But yeah in my opinion if they are not too expensive then they are worth the money.

i think a good chair is worth it. just think about how much use you will get out of it (then it's not that expensive per day) as well as possibily avoiding back problems

i used to get lower back pains then changed to a Herman Miller Aeron, and haven't had any more back pains. you can get these chairs in good nick from ebay for less than £300. many companies that go bust then need to sell their office furniture, not so good for the economy but good for my back ;)

My chair was a cashmire manager's chair (Staples) and was £120 half price (well I paid £120 as had 10% discount).

VERY comfy chair and the ass doesn't sweat like it does in fake leather chairs!

I have a Herman Miller Mirra and it's worth every penny for me.
The only one i have ever found more comfortable was the Embody, but that was too much money. Also with the Mirra, i had my seat rip after 4 years of usage, i called HM and with no receipt, no proof of purchase, basically just my word, they sent a guy with a van to come to my house and replace it free of charge! - This, you cannot beat.
In my opinion, if you sit infront of the desk for 4+ hours a day, it is worth the money to invest in a good seat.

Thanks for all your inputs.
I was almost sold by xxShinobixx post to the Herman Miller chair... until I saw the price! LOL! £500!?!?!? I can understand they are comfy and really good (Im a designer myself and I know these guys have put it a lot of their work and thought into this) but the price is just a rip off!!!

I am more within ~£150 budget...

Just have a look at the bay mate. As others said, you can get them pretty cheap.
And i think as far as the price goes £500 is just the base model. Once you start adding the extras you quickly go over £600 ;)

Yeah... been looking a moment ago... £250-300 might be worth it...
So HM did replace the stuff FOC on a chair you got of bay? seriously?

The problem is knowing if a chair will suit *you* before you splash the cash... The comfiest way I have to work at present is in an Ikea Poang with the laptop on my lap! I have a 'kneeling' chair - fantastic for my back but hard on my shins. I also have an Ikea office chair with a tilting seat, good for my back and hard on my b*m though I suspect I could fix that with a firm pad with the right cutout.

You also need to make sure the height of the chair relative to the table is correct (I need my forearms sloping down very slightly the keyboard like playing a piano, I never use a wrist rest) and the screen then needs to be the right height.

+1 for Herman Miller Aeron chair. Got one of the aluminium ones and it's possibly the best office chair I've sat on.

My last computer chair came from a Banardo's charity shop and cost me £10, had it for years and worked well enough for me....

No, i never said my chair was off eBay :). It was purchased from a retailer afaik but i do not have any proof of purchase as it was a gift. I could have just picked it up off the street for what they know...
But yes, they came around and replaced the seat for me. I had looked at the prices of new seats as i didn't think they would and i think the cheapest i found then was about £285.

On another note, between the Mirra and the Aeron i would personally go for the Mirra as i found it more comfortable to sit on for longer time.

*sees "spec me a chair" thread*
*searches for kashmir microfibre recommendation*

oh good, it already been recommended.

if you want comfy then you cant beat the kashmir. its the closest you will get to an arm chair on casters
