Are pioneer kuros screens full 1080p?

choosing a tv is all about making a compromise somewhere. there is no such thing a a perfect display. not even close.

somebody on avforums bought up an interesting point. people are forever changing blacker blacks but this comes at a price. plasma is inherently far better at displaying dark colors and this is great for when you want to watch with your black curtains closes and the lights off. we dont do that all the time though - i know i use my tv id say 90% of the time with at least the living room light on, or during the evening when its still far from pitch black out there. plasma's do not perform as well when ambient light is thrown in to the equation. during the day, my lcd is very VERY good. going back to what i said - whatever you choose is a compromise.

as for 24hz, it is a vital feature imo. coming from somebody who owns a 1080p without it and experiences the judder running at 25hz can cause, you'd be a fool to buy a tv without it. but even so as said, 24hz 'support' is confusing at best.

As far as I'm concerned the Pioneer LX508D is the best Tv avaliable in Europe at the moment. This is the 1080p model. However, the 720p models are not far behind, and even the 4208XD will beat any 1080p 42" in terms of actual image quality.

Your best bet is to track one down -on display-, in a proper environment and evaluate the image quality yourself.

4280D ;) I know what you mean though. Wish I could get the 50inch now as it has come down to around 1600 which is a bargain. But with the new 1080p 9G 50inch kuro tv coming out at 2400, it really has put its stamp on the market as the best tv out there. they arn't even out yet but improvements over the 8G kuros and 1080p as standard is going to be sensational.

went into JL on the weekend and compared kuros 4280XD with the panasonic TH42PZ85 on SD mode with the F1 showing on there and I can say the pioneer came out way tops for me. the picture was crisper, brighter, better colours and handled the fast motion much better than the panasonic. yes at 50cm dist I could see some tearing on the cars but hey I don't plan to be that close to the set. I saw the HD on the kuros and that was excellent as well. The panasonic wasn't hooked up to HD so I couldn't compare that but with my viewing being 75%SD I think that made up my mind.
SO subject to a price match - I will soon be taking delivery of the pioneer PDP4280XD.

Thanks for all your help guys.

final question - any links to the right settings for the above set?

Why o why o why did you look at that set, once you do, you HAVE to buy one. I got roped in by its charms as well :D

HD on the Kuro was better than the 1080p panasonics when I compared them, with the PZ70 range that were panasonics best until a month or two ago. For me it was down to the blacks and just more pleasing image. But sitting at home watching hellboy at the weekend I thoght the Kuro blacks were looking crap  I think I'm just a picky, and to go any blacker I would need to gouge my eyes out.

Blair is right about *** 1080p kuros, but atm it is a very very bad time to even consider buying one as the new 9G LX models are around the corner, coming in June, and the 50inch 1080p entry level version shold cost about £2.5k which is an absolute bargain. Well it is if you can afford one ;)

50inch is too big for my living room (living in a flat) + price then goes up and up and I think I have to draw the line somewhere.
It wasn't only the blacks but the pioneer produced a vey sharp, crisp image, which was very pleasing to the eye...now I can't wait to take delivery!!!
