Are Seagate HDDs reliable?

I have been using Seagate for about 25 years and change them at around 5000 hours use. So far I have never had one fail... I did have one that was faulty on arrival but that was only one occasion and technically had already failed before it could be used. I think Seagate drives are the equivalent of Honda engines for failure rates.
 
Seagate have had a few bad batches (such as my original 4 1.5TB drives which had 100% failure rate due to firmware) but are generally good. I've had the replacement 1.5TBs with the latest firmware for 6 years now without a problem.

Never had any other problems with them. Just do some research before buying.

i have had a couple of 2tb seagates pack up on me i could just be unlucky with them although i have 7 wd greens and a really old maxtor which have run for years. i wont buy seagate anymore
 
I was planning to go from WD GREEN to RED, but i'm considering BLACK now; i'm working on the theory the longer the warranty the more faith they have in them.
 
The company I work for are in the process of replacing over 4000 Seagate drives across different sites as a particular batch were found to be prone to leaking fluid (from the bearings, I think). Oops. The majority of the faulty hard drives retained at work which fail Blancco and get degaussed/shredded are Seagate as well, although that might just be down to their ubiquitousness.
