Are the iPhones completely network independent?

I ask because under the phone section of settings I have "o2 start", and when I put a three sim in that "o2 start" remains...

I thought networks weren't allowed to mess in the slightest?

Just curiosity that's all :)

I have the same thing and I bought my phone straight from Apple. I'd never noticed it before but it's never been near an o2 shop.

Good point, I've never noticed that before either. Does anybody on Orange have a similar option? I imagine it gets added when you unlock the phone through iTunes.

It's probably a universal thing. I.e orange and vodaphone may have a link there too. Its not like they are bundling apps with the phone, or skinning it.

Mine has that too and it's one bought from Apple, although I am using a simplcity 20 sim.

However, it may just be a legacy thing left over in the firmware from when the iPhone was O2 exclusive.

My iphone 4 was bought from orange and mine just has a button for orange. Presumably it gets set through the activation process

If you mean at the bottom of the phone section where it has a button, mine is on Orange and just states 'Orange'.

are iphone 4s actually network locked or are they all sim free do you know?

I've worked out where this comes from. When I first plugged my iPhone 4 into iTunes it offered me a carrier update. These carrier updates include this personalisation.

Yep i have the same with my tmobile sim card inserted..clicking on it just takes me to the tmobile web and walk homepage.
