Well It seems I've come across more money than sense at the moment, and I'm gonna spend it on a pc upgrade, are the quad extreme's worth it or should I be looking at something else?

If you have significantly more money than sense, by all means buy one. If you have any sense at all, buy a Q6600 or similar and overclock the nuts off of it. You won't notice the difference.

Thats was what my mind was telling me tbh, which is good. What would you recommend as I'm trying to make a decent gaming system thats gonna be able to run crysis (and that kind of graphics) smoothly.

No GPU can really handle Crysis at its maximum settings at a decently high resolution i believe...

Maybe you are better off waiting? New GPUs are around the corner.

CPU wise there wont be any major changes until Q4, and thats when a new extreme model is going to be released.

Basically you can buy everything now and wait for new GPUs or you can wait for everything. Maybe cheaper Yorkfields will have decent availability by then!

Tbh, max resolution I can play at is 1280 * 1024 as my computer has been relegated to the smallest room in the house by the missus so can't get a bigger monitor :'(

So if there is something that can handle that kind of resolution i'd be happy.

I don't know... until you upgrade the monitor and run at a higher resolution? A year, until better games are made? Thats a bit of a silly question, no-one can give you anything more than a vague answer there.

Spec a kick arse custom watercooling rig and you're ready to roll

Total cost: £7823.79+Cooling

All in all a steal with enough spare change from £10K for a small car!

Investing a lot of money in a PC nowdays just seems so silly... especially if its for gaming it seems, spend your hard earned money on something that will still retain its value after a year down the line...

And being an owner of an older quad core extreme (QX6700), no it wasn't worth it, biggest waste of money ever.
