Are there any 144hz 35" or larger - none widescreen - monitors around yet?

I'm thinking something like the Ilyama x4071uhsu 40" that's a 4k 60hz but with a higher refresh rate.

I've got a 27" BenQ XL2720Z and running it at 144hz so I'm reluctant to step down so much as I hear you can really tell the difference going backwards, less so going forwards.

I really need something huge though as I'm going blind and I aren't wanting an ultrawide etc

Yup, end of year at earliest really... none of the ones recently announced are due till then, but I think the Acer/Asus 200Hz HDR ultrawide is your only option anyway at 35"+. I don't recall seeing any 16:9 panels at that size or above which offer the same features. There is a apaprently a 32" version of the HDR 144Hz Asus model, but if you want bigger than that, I don't think there is anything on the horizon (yet).

Why WOULDN'T you want ultrawide though? As an X34 owner myself I'd NEVER go back to 16:9 now unless I could get 40"+, but then that would probably be too big for my set-up.

Because of my poor eyesight and don't ultrawide just give more WIDE but not HIGHER?

I am looking for a bigger picture not just more picture. Currently, I have that 27" 144mhz BenQ and I can see it okay but some text is hard to read at 1080p in games or on websites - I struggle with all the text in Divinity : Original Sin for example. So what I'm thinking is standard 16:9 but but much bigger screen, same res. I will run in 4k for some stuff, but in 1080 for games. I had a 28" 2560 x 1440 monitor I bought two years ago, and although it cost me £400 I ended up giving it away to my Dad as I couldn't stand the small text, and ofc it didn't downscale to 1920x1080 very well. Big screen but small image.

Would you recommend the Ilyama x4071uhsu 40" for gaming? The thing that concerns me is the 60hz. I don't really play many FPS games nowadays though I am gonna give 7days to die another go next week with the new alpha but FPS wise it only ran at about 50 before anyway.
I don't mind paying for the Ilyama x4071uhsu 40" now and then buying one of the new 144hz 4k 40" displays that come out end of the year/next year as I can afford both given the time.

Well your situation is quite unique, but you could try a 40" 4K and see how you get one with it. If you're planning to upgrade in the near future though, just get a 40" 4K TV... you'll pay less than a monitor and both would be 60Hz. There is no adaptive sync on that Iiyama one, neither will there be on any TV, so they're equal on that front. Silly paying more for a monitor you won't keep... you'll get a decent TV for £150-200 less.

Yeh I suffer from a genetic disease called x-linked retinoschisis - slowly robbing me of visual acuity with no cure.

Ok cheers :) So, there's no advantage in the monitor over the TV ? Surprised the monitor is available at all then? Even if it's a bit better the money isn't an issue.... well it IS an issue I don't have much but I'm happy to pay for the right screen for my circumstance.

Not really no... both 60Hz, VA panels. Reviews don't suggest the Iiyama is anything special... it just offers nothing worth spending that extra on, especially if you intend to upgrade later. That said, I've not seen or heard of any 4K 40" high refresh monitors on the horizon.

You may want to check out this thread if you haven't already... https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/mini-review-samsung-40ku6400-as-a-monitor.18756127/

The only concern would be the response time difference I suppose.
3ms vs 20ms

Regarding the large size, 4k, high refresh monitors I think that someone said they'll be knocking about end of the year or 2018. I don't necessary need 40" - 35" would do :)

Don't put any stock in the Iiyama advertised figure... it won't achieve that. According to review HERE they measured at 24ms, which is what you'd expect.

I am so confused now. I guess there's never going to be monitor that's capable of what I want which is weird because surely loads of people want this kinda thing!

Anyone overclocked a 40"+ Tv?? I have 5yr old Ips monitors that do 120hz and managed to get 75hz from my projector.. What a difference it makes.
