Are there any 5800x3d vs 7800x3d MMORPG tests? Trying to figure out the benefits

I am struggling to figure out if 7800 will offer any benefits, lots of tests I've seen suggest almost no difference in a large number of games. 2-3% increase to be exact for 30-40% extra money counting a new mobo.

Mostly playing MMORPGs on 1440p with RTX4700. Currently on intel so will be buying mobo either way. Would want to still use ddr4 ram for now.

Any tests that can help me figure out how much more performance will I get with 7800?

If you are buying a new system, go AM5 the 5800x3d is a great chip for people already on AM4 to get a cheap boost to their system but even the 7600 matches/beats it in pure performance.

Agreed. As a new buyer you’d be crazy to buy into a dead platform. AM5 will likely be here until 2028 or perhaps even 2030.

You wouldn't be able to use DDR4 with a 7800X3D.

By the looks of it, if you had a faster graphics card than the 3080 used in the test, the performance improvement could be decent (the 1% lows can be very meaningful in raids too), since I think this is even @ 4K?

Am5 only works with ddr5, 7600x doesn't have fancy L3 cache and is 6 cores but has higher IPC and clock speed

If it's for one game (like wow) then you really need to ask around the player base, I've not played it for years. does it even make use of more than one or two cores now ? it didn't.

looking at that video I'm not even sure it uses the L3 cache and the difference isn't just clock speed

I play a few games but the most demanding one is Black Desert, particularly mass pvp which can have hundreds of players on the screen at a time. It does use L3. I did ask around people who upgraded to either CPU noticed massive difference but understandably they cant compare the two.

I'd use the same cooler: this.

AM5 does have the advantage of future CPU upgrades, so it is arguably a better investment as you can re-use the motherboard/RAM in the future.

The only case I would recommend sticking with DDR4 is when you have and need large amounts of it - say 128 GB - and even then Threadripper 7000 is on the horizon.

Now I'm not suggesting people go and buy AM4 for a new system unless they are on a very tight budget or buying second hand but I don't think AM5 will be sticking around for aslong as AM4 did\has

You would assume it will be supported at least until DDR6 becomes mainstream, so effectively the end of its natural life.

Who knows, they may adopt the intel change the socket just for the fun of it every refresh approach.

Whilst I can't easily answer your actual question... I went:

5800X3D, 32GB (2x16) 3600 C14 DDR4, X570 Asus Rog Crosshair Hero

to

7800X3D, 32GB (2x16) 6000MHZ C30 DDR5, Asus Rog Strix B650E

now... I did also change from a 6900XT to a 4070Ti, but, the difference has been phenomenal for me. Well worth every single penny.

not a big difference unless your cpu limited with the gpu

Yes you're spending a lot extra for an AM5 platform but you're not buying into a dead end so saving money in the future by having a board you can add to with an 8000 or even 9000 series chip in 2026 or 2027.

was my thinking last year, either go for 5800x3d or go for new am5 so I went with am5
no regrets even if was a steeper cost and I can look forward next years x3d upgrade without changing platform
