Are there going to be any more price drops on C2D?

Are there any more planned price drops on C2D's? Since my current one cant really be overclocked due to a poor motherboard and stuff, im thinking of getting something like the E6850 to see me through to next year.

Why dont just get a new motherboard and new Memory?

The E6850 is the biggest waste of money, why not just get a E6750 and clock it to 3.4GHZ+?

Though if your spending that much on a CPU, Quad all the way. :)

Edit - sorry i sort of let your very first question fly over my head. :p .

Anyway to your question, no their arnt anymore price cuts as far as im aware.

Thanks :)

Im really not sure what to do since my PSU and Motherboard are both not suited to overclocking at all (a 530w hiper and some random generic C2D mobo :p) I think that would push the price to high (im 15 so im a bit poor, and no i didnt buy my 8800gts).

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160, don't be fooled by the 50 quid pricetag, it's a massive overclocker on the cheap
EDC: I guessed you missed the bit where he said his board isn't any good at overclocking? :D

tomanders91: What is the name of your mobo and what memory do you have?

I think maybe it would be cheaper to buy yourself a new mobo (sell your old one) and overclock that uber E6400 of yours :)

no I didn't notice he already has a decent CPU ... I agree then, dump the mobo and buy one with some decent voltage options to overclock your E6400

The motherboard is a Foxconn P9657AA, pretty poor.

keep your e6400, ive got mine @ 3.7ghz, just get a p35 board for like £70 instead and overclock your cpu instead of buying a new cpu!

I did actually agree with Big.Wayne if you read the thread, yes he should definitely keep his E6400, no question.

Just change your mobo. Go for an Intel 965 or P35 chipset.
I just had a read of a few reviews and that INTEL P965 motherboard of yours looks half decent?

Foxconn P9657AA-8EKRS2H - Elite B**tards

It says in one of the reviews that "this board does not allow for CPU multiplier adjustments" is that true?

What memory are you using (for the second time!) :D

It sounds to me though like you can't decide between getting a stock 3ghz chip, or oc'ing your current one?

If I were in your shoes, and I was worried about my PSU not being up to the task, then that's the thing I'd be changing next, rather than the CPU.

If not that, then I'd be looking at some faster memory to help get the chip up to where you want it to be, but that would require overclocking, something you don't sound too keen to do?

That board should be ok to clock your current chip some distance, but you'll hit the limit of your RAM before you get to 3ghz I think.

I'd sacrifice ultimate CPU speed for a solid, dependable, PSU any day of the week though!

Ill look for some reviews of my motherboard, check what people have been getting C2D's to, then maybe buy a new PSU and some decent memory.

my e6400 boots at 4ghz, is stable at 3.8ghz with a pretty high voltage, and currently runs at 3.6ghz.. so you could have a pretty decent one... just clock it and see :D
