Are these collectable items?

My granddad passed away in January after losing the battle with cancer and my family has now started going through all his belongings to see what he had and what they should keep and what should be given away etc.

He worked in a factory that makes paper and back then he was one of the people who did the handmade paper rather than mass production work. Some of this was ordered to UK by the royal family to what my parents have told me would have been more of a personal use ones.

My parents have now found some of the handmade paper that my granddad kept as a memory and are wondering if they are collectable items and if anyone would want to buy these. (Although I think keeping it would make a nice memory of my granddad and what he did for living but its not up to me) They all have different watermarks as they are made for different people and so on.

Here are some pictures of these items:

As well as having the picture all these papers say "Tervakoski hand made"

With this last one we are not sure what castle this is but I though I add it to here anyways.

So what do you think? Are these just nice memories that have more sentimental value or do they have any actual value in money?

Thank you for any help.

Its Balmoral Castle but you've got it the wrong way round ;)

There may be some worth to collectors of Royal stuff but without taking it to a specialist I'm not sure if there anyone here who can comment on such a specialist item.

I shall inform my parents what castle it is :D Thanks.

Do you know anywhere I could find someone who knows about this kind of stuff? I think it will be tricky as I don't actually have these here, they are at my parents house back in Finland and would need to be posted over etc for someone to have a proper look...

No idea on the value but some people are nuts for anything royal including those of Diana, they are somewhat unique i guess so may be worth a bit

It always amuses me... "my dearest beloved relative has died and left these really sentimental items that remind us of them..... How much can I get for them?"

Keep them. I'd be surprised if they're worth much anyway.

:p

I'm guessing sentimental value

That factory still seems to make paper though

Maybe if you could find the exact same image somewhere and link them together it could increase their value.

are they prints that may have been used on royal invitations , cards etc or hand drawn?

Jokes on us, those get $300 idiot money on the bay now when they do come up, they've had a better rate than my ISA over the 5 years since we all joked about them...
Idiots are the people buying them for stupid money, I bet the guy who originally had the non official coins minted probably payed about that for the whole production run in a third world or russia lol

As said in my OP I would love to keep them but it is not up to me. I would most likely not be able to get rid of anything if it was up to me to be honest. I loved my granddad very much but I have not got a single item to remind me of him as I did not think he would die any time soon. The cancer took him in only a couple of months. I saw him at christmas when he had just got home from hospital where he was few weeks and got told about it and he died end of january so Im still dealing with this. He did not tell any of us how bad it was and we all thought he was going to go through treatment when actually he was not. My family is going through a lot of stuff and are not going to keep everything, most will be given away/sold and that how it goes unfortunately. It is already hard to choose what to keep without people like you making comments like this.

Most of the items for memory my dad will keep will most likely have something to do fishing as my granddad was passionate about it and I spent some of the best moments with him learning about fishing. I also have no doubt there is more of these papers he made and that few of them will be kept but it is not wrong to start from somewhere.

Correct, they were $20 including shipping in 2009, one sold for $610 a few months ago...... I never could have seen it coming

Yes its still very much up and running. Both my granddads worked there :) A lot of people I know work there now.

I believe they are prints that got sent to them but I do not know for sure. You cant see it without light behind the paper which might be one reason why I cant find any pictures online of letters etc.

All I know is what my parents told me which is that they would have been for personal use / letters so I think this makes it harder to find any pictures too...

if they were just used maybe as normal writing paper with like a huge water mark by the royals most the value would come from the actual content on the paper rather than the paper itself.
I'd imagine ,unless they are hugely collectible and some guy would love a blank.

You really need to find out what they were actually used for though

Thank you for adding that link. One of those watermarks on the page is my granddads name. Brought a bit of a tear to my eye to see it there...

Then I would keep them for sentimental value if I was you, if there are loads of them maybe keep one set and sell the rest but otherwise I'd be keeping them
