Are these components compatible?

Well, everything went in fine, and i've come to turn it on for the first time.

Everything light up, all fans are running and i've got 4 lights on the motherboard (2 green 1 yellow and 1 red).. but it restarts after 5seconds.

Any advice?

Try the other stick on its own - just to rule out a faulty stick.

If it works then, as it's your first build, when you fit the other stick back in (into the correct slot for dual channel check manual) make sure that it is fully pressed down. Be quite firm as the problem you're expereincing can be caused by poorly fitted memory.

Well i've tried both sticks, it only works with 1 stick in.
I get the feeling its something to do with the bios settings on the mother board.
Do I have to tweek the power output?

Have you input the values for the memory in the BIOS - frequency/timings/voltage?

If you haven't - for now just enable the XMP.

Once things are stable we'll input the values manually - or if you have no luck with the XMP.

You need to go in to the 'overclocking section' (even though you wont be overclocking yet) - if you have the MSI board?

Once in - enable XMP and then save and exit.

We'll set the memory values manually if the XMP doesn't help matters...

I put the ram in slots 3 & 4 instead of slots 1 & 3.

Hehe, thought you may have - but as i had mentioned to check for the above in a previous post i thought you had it covered.

It's easily done on a first build - you've done very well so far.

Read my previous post -as you may have missed it as we posted at the same time.

EDIT: What are your temps like?

60 Idle
80 when playing Crysis on max settings with mods that make the game even more advanced.

Within a minute of closing Crysis the temp drops back to 60.

I removed both of the original fans that came with the new case I purchased.
I assumed I was meant to remove them to give way for the heatsink, but it looks like both could back into the case.

Would this be a good idea?

Would this be a good idea?

Yes (as in put them back) - if you've done what i think you have done.

Do you mean you've removed the rear and top outake fans from the case? (i'm presuming you have the antec 100)

If you have you need to put them back as this would, partly, explain your high temps (but not soley).

What method did you use to install the HS?

EDIT: Is the memory problem completely resolved now?

Yeah I removed those two fans and yes it is the Antec 100.

I used the method you described to fit the heatsink, easy, was no trouble.

Memory seems to be fine now.

I will put those two fans back in then.

Great - post back with your temps once the fans have been refitted.

Use prime 95 for 5 minutes for a 'ball park' figure of your temps under load.

Those temps are warmer than they should be - how thin was the blob or line that you put on the CPU?

Also did you make sure that the screws were fully fastened?

Using a Fredom Tower on a stock SB I would have expected idle temps bewteen 30 to 40 max and load temps of up to 70 (again max)

This is being conservative too as your system isn't clocked.

Are all your cae fans connected - front too?

Did you tint the HS first? - And if you did, did you make sure that you took off the excess - so that only the gaps were filled leaving the base with only tace amounts?

My point being is that you have either poor contact between the HS and CPU or you've applied too much or too little paste.

DOn;t worry about it - as it's a learning process with a new build - but it's looking like you need to reseat the HS.

I'll search out an example pic for amount/application...
